Belated meme

*sigh* Once again I was reduced to skimming a few days of my friends list today, for the first time in over a week. I feel very disconnected when that happens. Miss you guys! *resolves to reserve afternoon break every day for LJ, and then remember to take said break*

Anyhoo, better late than never: Four things about me that are true, and one that isn't. Hope I'm half as much fun to guess as some of my buds. :->

1. Between the beginning of eighth grade and the beginning of ninth grade, I grew eight inches. Five inches of that occurred in the three-month span of summer vacation. I didn't realize this had happened until I tried on some of my school clothes to see what I needed new, and discovered the answer was "everything."

2. I once drove a 15-passenger van towing a 14-foot trailer on the outbound Long Island Expressway during evening rush hour. The outside lane of the elevated portion was particularly entertaining.

3. As an attendant to the Quint Valley Fair Queen when I was fifteen, I was nearly two hours late to the fair's Saturday night dance. I had gone home to shower and change after a day of such glamorous duties as presenting ribbons to proud 4-Hers in the pig arena, and had been dropped off back at the fairgrounds promptly on time. However, I was ambushed in the parking lot on the way in and drenched with beer, and had to go home, shower and change all over again.

4. While I worked at BalletMet, we were once faxed a choreographer's two-page bio at 10:00 a.m. It was in Portuguese. After a brief flurry through the studios and office (during which the artistic director insisted it was in an obscure dialect of Spanish), I successfully translated it in plenty of time for it to be included in the NEA grant proposal that had to be picked up by the FedEx carrier at 4:00 p.m. I have never studied Portuguese.

5. When I was eight, I got to stand inside the gates at Buckingham Palace to watch the changing of the guard. I got bored with the pomp and circumstance about a third of the way through, and spent most of the rest of the time watching two off-duty guards play darts. I still have the photograph I took in which you can just make them out through a window.

gah. They all sound plausible.

The fact that this is the case tells you our lives are much more interesting than we might think they are... ;-)

She's right, they all do. Hmmm...

I'm gonna go with #1
