Yes, you silly machine, that was me!

Anybody know if there's a way to get LJ to stop emailing me every single time I log in to say that there was a login from an "unknown location"?? I thought maybe it would figure it out after the first, oh, four or five times I logged in from the same home and work computers I've used for years, but apparently not. And I can't find a setting to change.

I'm not usually one to complain about LJ-change shenanigans, but this is getting really irritating.

I've been getting the same thing from my laptop and from my phone, neither of which have ever been problems before. O_o

I don't mind it starting with a blank slate for some new security measure, but if there's no mechanism for telling it "Yes, this is a normal place for me to log in from, stop calling it 'unknown,'" then somebody really really didn't think it through.

Are you using a static or dynamic IP address? When I recently switched to wireless, I learned that I had to get my router to stick with a static address (on my side, not my ISP's side) in order to stop troubling my firewall.

I don't recall LJ being a specific problem at that time, but it sounds... similar? Just a possibility! Someone else will doubtless know for sure.

It changes occasionally at home, depending on which computer happens to grab the available IPs and in what order. Dunno how it's set up at work. But each of them has been the same for the several logins listed since LJ started doing this a few days ago.

And in any case, there ought to be some way to tell LJ "Yes, this one is okay," and as far as I can tell, there isn't. I just get an email every single time I log in that says "If this was you, you don't need to do anything." *eyeroll*

A friend who got the same email (though only once) suggests clearing all previous sessions. You can find your list of logins in the history tab of your account settings.

Friend can't swear it'll fix the problem, but she figures it can't hurt.

Interesting! Intuitively, I figured that would do the opposite, i.e. that if it didn't have a record of me logging in from those IPs, it would start all over again. But since having them doesn't seem to be helping, I'll give it a try.
