Fanfolk assemble!

I thought I might regret not doing the midnight show, but I haven't so far, so I think it was the right call. :-) Instead, we went as soon as feasible after brainiacfive got off work on Friday, and had a marvelous time.

I'm not feeling driven to say anything in particular, just basking in the squee (despite having seen some criticisms that I agree with to varying degrees). Should you wish to squee in concert, consider comments to this post open for spoilers. Same goes for criticism and/or in-depth meta, with the caveat that I'm not likely to hold up my end of such a discussion very well. I just had FUN. :-)

HAWKEYE = ♥♥♥♥♥!

I need more Hawkeye in my life. And Coulson. Oh, Agent Coulson.

Don't we *all* need more Hawkeye in our lives? Really?

I also feel a desperate desire to pinch Bruce's cheeks and tell him he's adorable and then maybe make him some cookies or something.

:D I think we do.

Aww, Bruce. I second that. He just needs a hug or something. I love him and Tony. Total BFFs.

OMGYES. Mark Ruffalo has been A Thing for me since he sort of blindsided me in 13 Going on 30. I'm not generally a romcom person at all, so I was surprised by how much I liked it anyway, and he was a lot of that.

Bruce was PERFECT.

I'm kind of "meh" about Hawkeye in general, but I liked him in this, and particularly liked the more-show-than-tell spin on his and Natasha's relationship.

Coulson's fabness goes without saying. Which doesn't preclude us from continuing to say it. :-)

I was wondering how they were going to play up his and Natasha's relationship in this and I have to say, they did a wonderful job with it. ... I'm hoping the Black Widow movie goes through because I'd love to see more of her history, and since he's a part of it, I'm assuming he'd make an appearance or two? *fingers crossed!*

Coulson. I firmly refuse to believe he is dead. Because I ♥ him and he is too awesome not to have survived or something. Fury lied. That's what I'm sticking with... /denial denial denial.

BLACK WIDOW MOVIE YES PLEASE. I would have thought that was a complete pipe dream before this, but now? I expect she'll have to share it with Clint, but I'm good with that.

And if Coulson is any more dead than Irene Adler, it's only by a very narrow margin. :->

Ahh, I found a short article mentioning it. Fingers crossed that it ends up happening. I know I'm not the only one who'd love to see it. :D

I actually shouted 'No!' loudly in the theater when that happened. And also for Irene when I saw Sherlock Holmes 2. I have an immense love for both those characters, so it hurt a lot.

I want a Black Widow movie like burning. If Hawkeye is in it, too, that would be okay, because they're linked characters.

I hope beyond hope that they find a way to bring Coulson back from the dead. I loved him and will be holding out hope for a resurrection. ;)

YES PLEASE. To both of these.

And honestly, on the Coulson front, I'm at least 75% in the "Nick Fury is a lying liar what lies, 'nuff said" camp. :-)

I thought it was brilliant. Great balance between characterisation and action, excellent bits of humour, and really lovely composition of shots. I got a bit teary-eyed over Agent Coulson's death (and he needs an action figure, dammit!) while simultaneously thinking that his final speech could've come straight from Barthes. :P Oddly despite his killing Coulson, my fav character was Loki, who I not only felt was kept quite sympathetic (I know I'm in a minority there) but who has apparently managed to find the most effective hair gel in the universe. (My Anglo-Saxonist friend told me I'd got the plural right, btw). I'd love to cosplay him next time I give a lecture...

Oh, and you can imagine a British audience's reaction to the word 'quim'. ::g::

Whatever a Barthes is. I'll take your word for it. ;-) (Not to be confused with a reference request. I'll Google if I get curious enough.)

You're really, really not in a minority on the Loki thing, you know. At least from what I've been seeing in fandom for, oh, months on end. :-)

So our "-en" was confirmed?

And yes, I can imagine that. Someone on Tumblr declared that it must have been an ad-lib, because surely that phrase had to have come from the British classical actor. Which tells me the person saying it doesn't knwo as much about Joss as they think they do, but there you go.

::g:: French theorist who mostly did work on second-order meanings but also talked about characters/people suffering then avenging themselves.

Oh, good. ;) I tend to be out of touch with these things.

No, sorry-- you must not have seen the later Tweet. It's:

nom sg: Loki
gen, dat, acc sg: Loka
nom pl: Lokar
gen, acc pl: Loka
dat pl: Lokum

So I bought two Loka action figures. :)

I saw that on Twitter as well, though I saw a Tweet that said it'd been used in Firefly, 'The Message.' I haven't seen the ep recently enough to recall, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Ah! No, I didn't see that. Am very much in & out on Twitter.

Yeah, the general idea of Joss not being conversant in Shakespearey vocabulary is very funny to me. Heck, fifteen years ago I went around squeeing at anyone who would listen about how many VERY Shakespearean devices were integral to Buffyspeak - pressing words into other parts of speech, attempts at sophisticated vocabulary resulting in malapropisms, etc. So. :-)

See, and my take on Hawkeye was Why did they bother having a guy named Hawkeye in this movie? He wasn't particularly... anything. Not funny, not snarky, not chatty, not sincere. Would we have noticed if he was Agent #2 taken over by Loki?

Also, sort of the odd man out among RDJ, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and even Mark Ruffalo in the *thunk* dept. Which I understand is 100% personal perception. It just looked like a band of underwear models plus one guy next door.

All that being said, the interactions with Black Widow were well done. For whatever degree I might have cared about him, it was because she cared about him.

I was prepared to not like Mark Ruffalo as Bruce. I TOTALLY LOVED MARK RUFFALO AS BRUCE. He and Tony were nerds together! Is that usually a thing in the comics? It wasn't in the cartoon.

Although, how did he go from HULK SMASH SHIELD SHIP to HULK ONLY SMASH BADDIES. Makes him seem like kind of a dick for ruining the base ship.

Hulk + Thor = WHAM! *giggle*

No clue, but I loved it AS PIE.

I wondered that in the moment (which is arguably when it counts), but decided later that it was a matter of his choosing to change the second time, as opposed to trying to force it down until he 'sploded. That "I'm always angry" line was the breadcrumbs. The bad had happened, he'd survived, the rest of the team had survived, and he was able to come to terms with the Hulk being needed because of that.

On the Helicarrier, he was a high-pressure container smashed from outside, and exploded all over everything. In the city, the pressure was the same, but he purposely opened a valve.

I think that's exactly where the difference between the two smashing episodes arose. He chose to change the second time, to he was still in control (to a degree). When the Other Guy came out without license, he was a complete loose cannon.

I saw it. I loved it. I saw it again. I still loved it. It was fun, which is all a movie is required to be.

I know that there are things that aren't canon, strict or otherwise. I know that there are problems in terms of matching the years and years of Avenger comics that have seen print. However, I am perfectly happy to believe that Movie!Verse and Comic!Verse are two similar but entirely different places.

I am now returning to my happy place. :)

This is really the only sane way to fly. :-) I've seen valid criticisms that fall into other (i.e. general storytelling) categories, but am still happy to go "Movie. FUN." :-)

Ya know....the collector in me just CRINGED SO BAD when Fury threw Coulson cards on the briefing table.

I want to join with the faction that Fury is a "lying liar what lies"!! I was *so* not expecting Coulson to be killed off [why I don't know, since Joss does like to pull stuff like that] and I CRIED SO HARD. I really did. Coulson's an awesome character, and if he had to go, at least he did it with a bit of style.

Favorite scene just HAD to be when Loki was all like "you can't hurt me, I'm a god!!" and Hulk proceeds to toss him 'round like a toddler with a rag doll. XD

My hubby laughed at me when I said that Hawkeye's quiver was SO COOL. XD Forgot to get his opinion on the archery though...and really also liked Hawkeye's bow. [yeah, liked Hawkeye too...no, I'm not a gadget girl, why do you ask? No, we WON'T start talking about the various scenes with Tony's armor....LOL]

Black Widow ROCKED, I must say, from her first scene to how she PLAYED THE TRICKSTER GOD!!! Oh, that rocked so hard. heeee

I was ready to not like the new guy as Bruce/Hulk, because I just ADORED Ed Norton's take on it. But, I have to admit, he wasn't so bad. LOVED when he and Tony started doing the technobabble and everyone else was looking like "LOL Whut?".

When Cap was giving the cop orders, and the cop is like "who the heck are you to tell me what to do?" until the bad guys started raining on their head? LOL [and made me think of Original Galactica, since there was a similar scene in the first movie/episode--wonder just how often that particular convention's been used? LOL]. I know there were a LOT of people that were like "uhh....Chris Evans as CAP??", but I think he did an EXCELLENT job. Just goes to show. hee

I could probably go on and on...and I've seen the movie only once! LOL Will probably go see it again before it leaves theaters, I know the hubby wants to. ^_^

OMG THE CARDS YES. In my head, part of Hill's disapproving tone there is "You got blood on those ON PURPOSE." I want someone to write the fic where Coulson, in his hospital bed, rips Fury a new one for that. :-D

Hulk's Bam-Bamm routine was to die of laughter.

I read some blog posts a few weeks back by a fencing instructor who critiqued (based on trailers, obvsly) Merida, Katniss, and Hawkeye on their form. I'm afraid Clint didn't fare very well in his his first post, but now that he's seen it he's amended his opinion somewhat.
