Will you help?

As a lot of you know, I've been involved in a storytelling enterprise called Resonance for about ten months. In June, the world-building process was opened up, and as of today, the story archive (powered by the fan-created open-source eFiction) is open for submissions.

If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but are curious, start with the main website. From there, I recommend checking out the eight-minute mini-pilot that sets the tone for the world we're creating.

And we are creating it. The video linked above is the starting point for the core storyline, which is explained in greater detail here. The premise has been designed for essentially infinite possibilities for story to happen in other times and places within the universe. (In which there is already one explicit alternate reality.)

That's where you come in, if you're game. There are two things I keep saying I need to put in macros so I can add them to an email with a couple keystrokes. One is "You can't break canon, because canon isn't done yet." The other is "YOU'RE NOT DOING IT WRONG." :-) One of the main thing the creators of the project have learned is that most people find it at least as daunting to have too few rules as to have too many.

This world doesn't have very many rules. It doesn't even have much precedent yet, but that's starting to change. The more people contribute, the more concrete and complex the universe becomes. The term being used is "open source storytelling," and all narrative content -- including the mini-pilot and all elements of the core story -- are licensed under Creative Commons. Contributions in any medium are welcome, from straight-up prose fiction, to comics or audio or video, to anything you want to experiment with that can tell a story and/or build a world. We have a couple in-character blogs. I'd love to see in-universe websites or news articles, maybe photo essays, music, who knows?

If you think you might be interested, check out the Facebook page (including the FAQ), and I hope to see some of you register at the story archive and give it a shot.

P.S. Anyone who knows how to design & code skins for eFiction would be very, very welcome to take a crack at one for the archive...
