Okay, I think that's pinned down now

So, as of yesterday morning, if you use Gmail for the email on your domain, you can no longer be logged into it and also to another Google Account.

Needless to say, my primary logins for YouTube, Blogger, Google Calendar and probably half a dozen other things I'm forgetting? Are associated with my primary Google Account, NOT with the email address on my domain.

Cue much rearranging of aliases and forwarding so that I can continue to do everything I need to do without constantly logging in and out. Which would have been much simpler had I just been dealing with the two things, and not EIGHT other email addresses (three of which also have YouTube accounts associated with them, because you can no longer have just a separate YouTube account). *facepalm*

I think everything is squared away now, with everything funneling into one account, and there shouldn't be any difference in what people see when they communicate with me by email at any of those address. But damn, was that annoying.

I am officially Too Damn Many People.

That really bugs me that they're doing that. I don't know why they can't possibly imagine that people might have multiple accounts for different purposes like personal, work, fandom, etc.

But see, if they were all Google accounts to begin with, there wouldn't have been any problem! *eyeroll*

Monopoly strikes? I'm sorry you had that fuss and inconvenience.

And of course in their minds they're making things more streamlined and convenient, and for users from this point on (or for those who've always just been in Gmail without another domain involved), it is. In some ways, it will be for me as well.

It's just that, having used them almost since Gmail began, the adjustment isn't as smooth for me as I'm sure they assume it must be for everyone.

This week is particularly hairy, but I still managed to get it all straightened out, so. :-}

I HATE the "streamlining" of Google's various branches. My YouTube account is under a Gmail addy that I don't want it to be under, but they won't let me change it to a different Gmail addy. And I do NOT want to have to go through and recreate the whole YT account under the correct Gmail addy. *sighs*

Ugh. I don't understand why it won't let you change? What a pain.

I'll have to try it again, but the last time I tried, it said that my YT account was already attached to a Gmail addy, so I couldn't change it to a different Gmail addy. And I was frustrated and said "Screw it", but haven't tried again since.

ETA :: I just checked and was able to do it after searching and finding this FAQ. *mutters darkly*

Because that's totally intuitive. *eyeroll* Glad you were able to do it, though!

*nods* Totally intuitive! I've been a moron all this time, clearly. /sarcasm

On another note, I LOVE how YT says login with either your YT username/pw or your Google Acct info, but when you try to use the YT info, it bitches and tells you that you MUST use the Google Acct info. Um, if you're only going to accept the Google Acct info, why offer the other option? Or is that only for the people who haven't signed their lives away to the Devil linked to a Google Acct yet? *rolls eyes*

Ugh. I'm lucky enough that my optimum setup involves only logging into email on one. Everything else is forwarding, multiple From: addresses, and labels. But it sucks that you don't have the option to do it your way without working in two different browsers. :-P
