Bits 'n' bobs

Just when you think Blago can't be any more of a pathetic attention junkie... Seriously? You want to subpoena the the President of the United States to testify at your sad, sorry little corruption trial? Seriously? What are you, three? *industrial-strength eyeroll*

Two, two auditions tomorrow! :: thunderclap, cackle :: One for an indie short, the other for a print ad. The latter is from my actual honest-to-God agent, which doesn't happen very much. (I know they're submitting me; it's the getting called in that doesn't happen all that much.) Nice to have more than one thing to do as long as I'm schlepping into the Loop. With the luxury of time, I could even take transit for a change! Though it's supposed to rain, so I'm not sure about that one.

August is a long way away, but just around the corner in Costumer Time, so I'm trying to get stuff figured out for Dragon*Con. Definitely want to get movieverse Black Widow done for that. At one point I was thinking I might get it done for the movie opening but, well, no. That'll be a jury-rigged version (made possible by a photoshoot I did last summer where I scored a black front-zip surfer's suit because the photographer didn't have any other use for it). There are finally some decent reference shots out, and my main priority right now is figuring out what's the deal with her boots. They look like some sort of (possibly modified) martial arts shoe, which is kind of awesome and makes me very happy with the designers, but also means I need to figure out what the heck they are.

Dunno yet if I'll (a) finally finish my bustle dress, or (b) get it to fit in the luggage. There's definitely no question of taking the clockdroid, much as I'd like to -- at about 40 pounds and taking up large amounts of space, it's just not a costume I can fly with. I'm considering making a chemise gown to get more use out of the 18th-century stays, since they took so damn much time. Or maybe some kind of pirate-wench getup in which they can actually be seen, since I quite like the red stripe I used for them and they're really quite pretty. Of course, the red stripe also makes me worry that it'll show through any fabric suitable for a chemise gown. So there is pondering and investigating to do there. But a chemise gown can actually be packed, and I'm pretty sure there's always some kind of 18th-century meetup. padawansguide? That's a correct assumption, yes?

Also a hairs-breadth away from buying have bought this dress, and wondering if, should I decide to hall-costume prequel!Daisy, anybody would get it. The sundress/jean jacket/cowboy boots getup from the actual series would obviously be more recognizable (and just as easy to do), but Amy Manson has way too much hair for me to be able to pull that off. (Which I envy, but I'm also glad I'm not the one who had to stuff it under a wig cap for Desperate Romantics.) It's up in the prequel, so I could get away with that. And Daisy amuses me. Hmmmm.

Which Margo costume? I'm going to be bringing a vintage dress that's virtually identical to her green velvet one with the slashed sleeves (it just needs a bit of restoration, and for the beading to be added), but not to actually do Margo. Hubby's doing Dr. Occult & I'm doing Rose, for a magical comics character photoshoot.

Thanks for the tabi tip!

I'm going cheap for my Trek hall costume -- picked up the Rubie's Uhura dress for half price after Halloween, and the boots are by no means right but they'll do for a general impression. Now I just have to find tights to match my green makeup. *g*

Mind you, besides the accuracy issue, at the end of the day your feet will most likely hurt less than mine.

If you look like you know who you are, people love it, even if they haven't the slightest clue. =)

This is very true. And it often leads to the opportunity to recruit people to your fandom. ;->

I'm working on the white dress she "had made at Adrian's."

Awesome. I love that one. And that pattern looks great!

If the timing works out, we should get together in our 30s-ness. :-D

I thought about going as our resident Orion, but didn't want to fool with the makeup. I'm already packing too heavy.

Well, I'll have plenty if you change your mind. *eg* I have full-size cakes of both dark green and light green Mehron Paradise AQ. Originally bought it to be Elphaba for Halloween a few years back, and have since used it on the hubby brainiacfive.

Lot of green characters in this household for some reason.

And I'm loving the wealth of redheads we have to choose from! (Daisy isn't really -- sort of auburn at best -- but she amuses me, she's easy, and we're otherwise very similar in type. Which is not too surprising, since Amy Manson played a historical character about whom I've been working on a one-woman show off and on for about seven years.)

I couldn't pass up Gaila, even if I'm just dressing her the cheap way. It's the green most people will pay attention to anyway. Plus, she TOTALLY survived, darnit, so she deserves a full-fledged uniform. ;-)

Already ordered. :-)

The only reason I hesitated is that I already have a champagne-gold long cheongsam that I picked up for half price when an import store was going out of business last year. When I first saw the Daisy & Ivan clip, I was going, "Darn, too bad that store isn't still there with the sale happening now!" But I think their short cheongsams were marked down to about the same, and this one has free shipping, so it all comes out in the wash.

Plus, since I already have the other one, I knew for sure what size to order!
