Nice to meet you, Doctor

Random drive-by thoughts, 'cause I'm tired and I wanna go to bed. More no doubt to come.

Doctor, the console room is on fire.

Very first thought upon seeing the little girl: "Good casting!" Then I briefly considered the possibility that Amy was her aunt, but only as a remote possibility. Really, Doctor, you must stop making promises to little girls and standing them up.

Doctor, the CONSOLE ROOM is ON FIRE.

Cloister bell! (It is probably bad that my response to it is at least as much *squeee* as OHSHITBEARSAPOCALYPSE.)

Surprisingly low on the creepy scale for a Moffat monster.

Matt Smith = seven parts Sean Maher + three parts David Boreanaz. Aside from accidents of facial geography, however, definitely the Doctor.

"Basically? Run." Much more to the point than Ten, still hella scary. I approve.

Dunno yet what I think of Amy. We got enough of her to tell, but we also didn't.

The new console room seems a bit like a jumble of styles to me right now, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. The console itself... I'm on board with everything but the fact that the base structure appears to be made of some exotic sort of cheese.

Was that River Song flitting by in the preview montage?

Bottom line: Not as bang-kapow as we've grown accustomed to from season premieres, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I have been delivered an entirely adequate level of squee.

I believe that was River Song.

My reaction went something like: *gasp* RIVER!!!!!

He does look like Sean Maher, doesn't he? Except... I still think Matt also looks like uncooked dough.

He is kinda of acting like his long dark tea time of the soul didn't happen though. Is that normal?

It is, really. To some extent, it's the euphoria of "Everything is SHINY and NEW!" and existing issues will settle back into his psyche in a slightly different shape. Same thing even happened between Nine and Ten.

I think regeneration is as necessary for the mind as it is for the body. New neural pathways = new ways of dealing with old hurts.

Interesting way of looking at it. Also seems to be the canonical way of looking at it :) But you've been into this whole Dr Who business longer than I have.

It's just jarring, going from Tennant's fear and screaming that he doesn't want to die to "Hello! This is FUN! Let's roam the universe and have a BLAST!" He is acting like a puppy. And, I guess, yeah, maybe that is what should happen. Hmm.

I am not a fan of bow ties.

I do like that Amelia has a Scottish accent. Possibly because I'm surrounded by them all the time here. ;) But the line "You're Scottish, fry something" made me laugh.

Well, but Ten did die, and was totally justified in being afraid of it. This guy's just been born, and there's a whole universe out there.

He both is and isn't the same person each time. Also, despite the weird physical spasms, he actually pulled it together much faster than he has on some previous occasions. Usually we don't really see who he is now until the very end of the first full story.

I am not a fan of bow ties.

I'm indifferent, but they can't be shut in car doors. *eg* Resourceful new companion is resourceful. I approve.

That was River, with 40's-era hair. WWII was a popular destination spot for 51st century types?

Obviously a hub for some discount carrier.
