One more bit of fridge logic

Invitations, please!

I can handwave Josie's flat, if I think of it as more like a boarding house or something, and of course the girls upstairs invited Mitchell and Herrick in.

But how did Mitchell get into Drakefield's house?

That was the pedophile's house, right?

That's... a very good question. I forgot that this universe does the invite thing. It does do the invite thing, doesn't it?

Uhm... maybe... he lives in an apartment building and you only have to be let into the building itself? Like the barrier is at the sidewalk?

Yeah, him. Suddenly there is a vampire in his kitchen, and whaaaa?

That's the only handwave I can think of either, and it's not very satisfying. *sigh* There are great things you can do with the invitation rule. But you have to keep such a close eye on it. It gets messy so easily.

Maybe, again, a boarding house/co-op/something. Actually, in Drakefield's case, some sort of halfway house would make sense, but then I'd expect some sort of gatekeeper for Mitchell to have to talk his way past. Though I suppose "Chief Constable Wilson sent me" would do for that.

From the "Unearthed" interviews, it sounds like they incorporated the lore just because Whithouse happens to like it, not because he had a particular way he wanted to use it. But the instances with both Lauren ("I don't think you want this conversation happening on your doorstep") and Herrick (attacking Mitchell when he opened the door, then standing there going berserk until George slammed it in his face) were quite effective.

I half want to say there should have been more import to Lucy inviting him in when she saw the state he was in, but he needed to be surprised she knew. Then again, it's not like he was processing anything very well, so a hesitation on her part wouldn't exactly have tipped him off.

maybe there was a deleted scene that explained everything? *attempts to wave hand*

I think I'm good with the halfway house theory. Just means there's another bump in a bumpy ep. I do think it's mostly that they crammed a LOT into it, even more than usual.
