Dear Person With All-Caps Username,

If messaging random women on MySpace asking them if they want to have an affair is your idea of "descreet," I'm terribly curious what your "blatant" looks like. (Or perhaps that should be "blatent.")

Thanks for the laugh,
Val

In other news, finally watching the Met Tosca, which several of my opera friends' Facebook status indicated they HATED. I'm fine with it thus far. Tosca is, y'know, batshit, but that's the text. Rational people are pretty thin on the ground in Puccini in general. So I doubt that's where the objections arise.

Rational character? In opera? Closest I could think of was Ko-Ko the Lord High Executioner...

*snicker* Fair point. Still, there's "not thinking things through" and then there's "U R PAINTING BLUE EYES ZOMG U R CHEETING ON ME U MANHOOR! I am totes telling the excessively slimy police chief all about you now!"

I dare you to translate an entire opera into LOLspeak subtitles. ;)

*giggle* Betcha someone's beat me to it.

Edit: Well, Google is failing me thus far, but I did find these.

Now, of course, I'm picturing an opera ABOUT lolcats...

It can only be a matter of time, when the Royal has crowdsourced a libretto on Twitter.

What does it say about me that "Tosca" is my favorite opera? ;-)

That you're down with the batshit when it involves gorgeous music and a nice solid fourth wall?

Did you watch the new production on Great Performances? I'd heard Mattila, but I'd never seen her act before. DAYum.

And then there's how they do the leap. Very cool.

Seeing Tosca at the Lyric this Sunday. Should be interesting as it's my first non-college, non-Met-simulcast opera. At least it has to be a better story than Turandot.

Erm... Depends on what you object to in Turandot. If it's people doing stupid shit, well... I think maybe the reasons people die are rather less arbitrary?

I have a bit of an aversion to stalking being presented as romantic.

Gotcha. Yes, that you will be safe from in Tosca. There's attempted rape, yes, but it's decidedly NOT romantic. And ends badly for the rapist.
