Strong-arm tactics

Via nycdeb, I'm caught between shaking my head in disbelief and laughing myself sick at the fact that the media attention to Michelle Obama's taste for sleeveless fashion is not only still happening, but has inspired some wag to create a tongue-in-cheek blog for the "First Guns." I expected a one-note joke, but it's consistently clever and frequently quite pointed.

I particularly like the post responding to Nora Ephron bemoaning that she no longer has the arms for such styles, to which "Thunder" and "Lightning" (yes, if you've managed to miss it, some twitwit NYT columnist actually nicknamed the First Lady's arms) protest that respect should be shown for the things her arms have written! There's actually a lot of really thoughtful stuff about self-image, power dynamics, etc. around the framework of the silly central conceit.

My mother told me last summer that it didn't matter what was in style. The little jacket covering the upper arms was not coming off even if the building was on fire! teehee

There's something nonfunctional about that link... it thinks it's a subdirectory of your journal?
