There are a number of cynical comments on the YouTube page regarding its being an advertising stunt, as if that somehow ruins it. Um, let me get this straight: Some phone company chose to spend money on something really fun to witness. The problem with this would be...?

I <3 public displays of nonsense
I so do love a good flash mob. On Saturday I participated in International Pillow Fight Day (twice).

(my favorite pic with me in it)

:D You should totally look up your local Improv Everywhere chapter. We're kind of rad. >.>

I'm currently trying to figure out if it's possible to stage an ongoing yarnbombing of a small area downtown over the course of several hours without police intervention. I really want to cover a tree (that part I bet I could get away with) and then hang out continuing to add things as a checkpoint for Journey To The End Of The Night.

Okay, it's particularly awesome that they got that many people involved. So cool.

I was all listening to the announcement at the beginning, going: okay, that is a weeeird form of Dutch. And then I clicked on the video itself and noticed that it happened in Antwerp (Belgium). So it was educational, too. ;-)

As I understand it, Flemish is more or less mutually comprehensible with Dutch (I think it's one of those cases where not everyone is in agreement re: language or dialect?), so I wondered if that would be your reaction. :-D

No, no, Flemish is a form of Dutch (as in, everyone calls it that, including every single last one of them). The only people who aren't in agreement are people who don't know much about the language and are confused by it having a separate name. There's nothing wrong with calling it "Flemish," but when you use that term you're using the name of the dialect, not the name of a separate language. Like, say, "Quebecois." Or "Bayrisch." Y'know?

That makes more sense (and shows you how superficial and scattershot my knowledge is). Thanks!

I figured it was a dialect from what little I knew about it, but had a stronger impression of people thinking otherwise for some reason.

That was really cool! That would have been amazing to have been in the crowd to see that. :-)

Wow, like every person in that station was part of the mob. :) That was pretty excellent.

Another copy of the video on YouTube has this explanation: "More than 200 dancers were performing there version of "Do Re Mi", in the Central Station of Antwerp. with just 2 rehearsals they created this amazing stunt! Those 4 fantastic minutes started the 23 of march 2009, 08:00 AM. It is a promotion stunt for a Belgian television program, where they are looking for someone to play the leading role, in the musical of "The Sound of Music"."

Cool, thank you! I'm guessing the phone company people are on about is the sponsor of the show, then.
