Of long days and scary hair

Ah, tech week and your 18-hour days, how I did not miss thee! The buzz running up to opening is worth it, though. Also, I'm taking Wednesday off for stress-management purposes, i.e. to avoid trying to cram a workday around an early-afternoon film audition.

The good news is, sounds like we will have our rightful Lucy back tonight. At the very least, she's way better, and if we don't have her tonight, it will be because she's being smart enough to get completely better. Still touching wood that nobody else gets sick. Mina was planning to get lots of extra sleep (taking off work today if necessary) to help make sure whatever's knocking on her immune-system door doesn't make it in.

Last night I attended to my increasingly obvious roots, and now my hair is DARK. As in, the box calls the color "Malaysian Cherry," and at the moment, it literally looks like a black cherry. It won't stay that way past the first shampoo -- sometimes my hair just soaks up more pigment than others, and with the semi-permanent stuff it's always fine after one wash -- which is good, because how it is right now would so not blend with the clip-in extensions I'm planning to wear for the show. It's actually really cool, though of course it would be much more so if I could be arsed to wear makeup on a daily basis. Which I can't. Which is, of course, why I'd never claim to be a proper goth, perky or otherwise. Well, that and owning -- and, more to the point, actually wearing/playing -- say, pastel yellow Tigger t-shirts or Debbie Gibson CDs. Mock me. I dare you. Life's too damn short for labels anyway.

In the meantime, the hair is pretty damn cool. Too bad there's no time to take it out for a spin with an appropriately dramatic look before it washes out to something more usual.

Pastel yellow Tigger t-shirt? You don't have to be a Goth. You can be Willow.

I have my camera in my backpack, so I'll try to get one tonight. My guess is it'll just end up looking DARK without the actual red highlights showing up. The pigment density is pretty impressive.

They'll take my Tiggers away from me when they pry them from my cold dead hands. People have been giving them to me since I was about 15, plus I occasionally buy them myself. The yellow t-shirt has him in full rampant bounce with "WILD" across him in sparkly blue letters. I love it lots.

I was right - really no red showing up. Apparently it was practically glowing under the stage lights last night, but I didn't see it. And of course I was mistaken and had in fact left the camera at home. So you get me in all my scruffy post-rehearsal living deadness...

I see the red tint, even in that small photo. It works!

Goth is a state of mind. I was goth before they came up with that term. ;)

True enough. And who is and is not a "real" goth is best as a spectator sport, if at all.

I thought the Goths were a surly European barbarian tribe...

And really cool as portrayed by Alan Cumming & Jessica Lange as the Goth King & Queen from Titus.

Must watch that again soon.

I think, however, it's safe to say that anybody who uses the term "Gothette" is not a Goth and never will be.

*chuckle* Unless they're using it ironically. Or possibly in England, from what I've seen.

*snort* England. Where they called the suffragists "suffragettes", to make sure everybody knew they were ladies and therefore not to be taken seriously.
