In a rare fit of sanity, I am sitting on my hands and not participating in galpalficathon on account of I've been doing a lot of auditioning and something will probably bear fruit soon, and I'm not in the market for a nigh-instant replay of the Summer of Overbooked Crazy. Also my BT Virtual Season cohorts might beat me to death with Twizzlers, and quite rightly too.

I will, however, be watching the proceedings with great gleee. Dude. An entire ficathon centering on the friendships of female characters. Christmas isn't supposed to be for almost four months! And encourage those who can actually spare the time to go forth and prompt. Especially if you might be inclined to prompt for, oh, say, Vicki and Coreen.

Entertaining note: serendipity reared its not-at-all-ugly head this afternoon when taraljc made a post about said ficathon that invoked both the Bechdel test and the friendship of Wendy and Lacey on The Middleman. Not twenty minutes after reading said post, I heard this story on All Things Considered while driving to voice lesson. I was mildly pouting that someone beat me to pointing it out to her, and it turned out that the information in fact came from the editor. Who had assigned the story after reading blogs, including a recent one of Tara's, mentioning the Bechdel Test in the Wendy-and-Lacey context.

There are days when I really, really love fandom. :-D

Thank you for the heads-up on the ficathon. I wish it had ideal timing; it's going to be less than perfect for many with prior commitments, I suspect.

The temptation for me lies in their determination to make it "a fun, guilt-free, commitment-free, stress-free kind of ficathon." I have a feeling they'll be as flexible on the deadline as they are on the length.

And uh-oh, they are saying it's okay to prompt and not write...

It's your fault I immediately thought of Vicki and Coreen, you know.

You are going to write a V-C story for it?

The exercise is to pick up prompts other people leave. I doubt I'm going to be able to write anything for it due to A Certain Large Collaborative Project, but I just read that they're okay with you leaving prompts and not writing any. So I'll certainly be doing that. And I may finish my current section of Large Collaborative Project and make enough headway on my next one by mid-November to take a crack at it, depending on what else does or doesn't come up in the interim.
