Accident update

Honda Driver is making no attempt to duck liability, and her adjuster has thus far been very nice and helpful. They'll even cover a rental car for me while Titania is getter her bumper un-bumped.

As I understand it, HD was alone in her car, and is "okay" according to the adjuster when I asked. She said it in a carefully neutral tone, but since the car looked pretty totaled, even okay-but-not-great counts in the positive column.

The SUV apparently had a family of five on board. Don't know anything about what kind of injuries anyone there had. I know everyone being loaded on stretchers and backboards is SOP, but it still looked pretty scary. So, thinking good thoughts for them. Scary biz.

Arg! I read so quickly yesterday that I didn't realize that things looked SO BAD for the others. I'm glad the insurance folks are responding well and are supporting you as needed.

Still... Ten. Days. UGH!

Generally that all looks scarier than it is-- if everyone was belted in then I doubt there's more than whiplash and some bruising. ::hugs::

Still no news report about the crash? I wish there were a report, because it would probably tell you the condition of the people in the SUV.

Poor Titania. But at least she'll be fixed quickly.

How does Illinois auto insurance work? In Michigan, my own insurance company would cover repairs even if another driver were at fault, and if necessary would go after the other driver's insurance company to reimburse it for those costs. So we consumers don't have to fight with somebody else's insurance company if that company doesn't want to admit liability or is otherwise being obstreperous.

Nope. Didn't even make it onto the blotter at the Sun-Times. Go fig. I'm taking that as an indication that the injuries weren't too serious.

I had two options -- filing through my insurance and having them subrogate (i.e. what you're describing), or file the claim directly with the at-fault driver's insurance (which my insurance actually did -- I didn't have to call them cold or anything). The latter means I don't have to pony up the deductible out of pocket, and I can always go back through my insurance if I have any trouble. Doesn't look like I will, tho.

I'm glad the accident wasn't as bad as it could have been. I'm happy that you and the HD were okay and hoping like you that the others came out of it relatively unscathed as well.
