Background Noise

Saturday at Rory's First Kiss: Most productive shooting day I have ever seen in my life. Not that I've seen scads and scads of them, but I've seen a few, and dude. We later heard that they got half a day ahead of schedule. The logistics of resetting all the bits and pieces of a good-sized outdoor sequence went like clockwork, and we were being used all day with very little downtime between takes and even different shot setups.

I spent most of the morning guarding a trash can (no, not really, it's just where they put me; it did, however, mean each of the nearby principals came over at least once to throw away water bottles and such) at the corner where a group of city officials were starting from at each take for about an hour and half. The highlight of this for me (because Yes, I Am That Big A Costume Geek) was studying the seams of, and generally coveting, Maggie Gyllenhaal's coat. Also entertaining: Watching Keith Szarabajka chew gum and look baleful for hours on end.

The afternoon was all about running and ducking and hiding from Plot What Was Happening. Also getting punchy and silly during the downtime as the day wore on. And scaring several nearby individuals in the couple of takes when we were asked to make noise. As some of you know firsthand, I can deliver that. *evil banshee grin*

Principals seen at close range: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Nestor Carbonell, Aaron Eckhardt, Keith Szarabajka. (I am well trained to speak when spoken to when doing background, so the answer is no.) Principals seen about half a block away: Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger, Anthony Michael Hall.

Yesterday, OTOH, was all about hanging out in holding, being increasingly punchy and silly with buds, and not being used at all. So much for half a day ahead. Broke my previous record of an eight-hour day hanging out and not being used at all, but that occasion lacked said buds, so I'll still take this one. I felt really bad for several people who were only there for yesterday (especially aj, who didn't get pulled either for the smaller group that was used for a while in the morning or for the sampling they were photographing for CGI crowd-augmenting purposes), but at least we made our own fun. And they did march us all down at one point just before lunch, before the sun decided to beat straight down and make it impossible to get the shot, so at least the one-day folks got to see a sliver of stuff going on.

brainiacfive signed on for next Saturday and Sunday; I would have as well, but I have rehearsal all Saturday afternoon and you had to be available for both days. (Thus robbing poor aj yet again.) He was also there Friday, thus rendering him the only one of our little gang to have seen Christian Bale. As well as a certain shiny new mode of transportation, in which I would actually have probably been more interested...

ok, not quite all: they're putting him on a motorcycle!! SQUUEEEE!

When it comes out, you'll have to tell us all where to look for you in the background :).

Oh, definitely. Assuming I can be seen, anyway. I figure I'll at least see someone I know. (Besides the one girl we were hanging out with, who had submitted for regular casting as well, and found out Saturday night that she gets to get hijacked and killed this week. That's jealous.)

ooh, jealous indeed.

I should look into how to be an extra. I mean I'm from DC-- it's not like we don't get our share of random filming in town.

Fun! i'm so glad they replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal! And from the pics I've seen online, she doesn't look as bad in this movie as she usually does in every other movie she's in and in real life. LOL.

She looked great IRL on Saturday. But I'm sure you mean style, not intrinsic appearance, yes?

I was signed up for last Friday and got cut with two days notice. I was bummed, but I suppose it's better than waiting around all day and then not being used. I hope your Saturday work shows up on screen as I really want to watch the movie and spot *somebody* I know. :-)

A girl from work got cut, and then found out today that she had been emailed late Friday evening because most of the Red Cross group were pulled away to do flood relief. Unfortunately, she doesn't have internet access at home. :-/

Oh, dear. Well, at least this proves I wasn't that pitiful that I kept checking my email to make sure they didn't change their mind (in my case, they didn't).

The next time you see Keith Szarabajka (and this assumes you've been "spoken to"), be sure and let him know that the sound of his voice is what gets some of us quietly to sleep, and without the usual (or un-usual) nightmares. Sigh.

*chuckle* Well, it's unlikely to occur, but I'll keep it in mind. :-)
