Little Miss Cynical strikes again

Dude. Rummy is OUT.

And the pathetic part?

It took me about seven seconds to get from "Yeeee-HAAA!!!" to "Nicely upstaged, Mr. President. You say you lied to those reporters last week because you didn't want it happening in the middle of election craziness? Yup. No trouble believing that. You couldn't have TAKEN OVER THIS DAY if you'd done it then."

I think my Pollyanna pilot light has gone out. :: fiddles with gas line, strikes a few matches ::

Oh, this was *so* timed.

I should have placed bets on this. I was talking to my husband a couple of days ago when the whole "no faith in Rummy" thing came out, and I said that he'd be out after the election. Granted, I hedged my bets and said Bush may possibly do it on election day. But today was my first choice.

And cynically speaking, it's what I would have scripted.

Hmm. I wonder how long until Cheney resigns due to poor health?

Cheney is impeachment insurance, I'm afraid. At this point, no one will bother with the effort of impeaching Bush (for violating the Constitution and our treaty commitments) knowing that just puts Cheney in charge.

You know, if this was a move to steal the news cycle back, you'd think they'd wait till after the Senate has been called. This was a desperate act to change the story; unfortunately it doesn't make them look more competent. Especially when you consider how bizarrely loopy the President was during his press conference. (Seriously, where were his handlers!?)

Granted, Barbara Boxer was on NPR this morning saying she had gotten a call from the Republican chair of the environmental committee to congratulate her on her new chairmanship, so I think they know more about what's going on than the media is saying.

I saw your post about this -- was it a visual thing? The 20 minutes or so I heard of it sounded like standard Shrub to me, cultivated stammer and all.

I think it was probably a combination. And while he does stammer a lot, this seemed a lot more pronounced than usual. I was chatting with freifraufischer while watching, and at the same time we started wondering what was going on and why he seemed so... strange. It was just surreal.

Huh. I'll have to look at clips later. I thought it sounded about par for him in anything that hasn't been rehearsed to death.

Yeah, but if they had announced it, it might have swayed enough votes that yesterday wouldn't have happened.

So upstage all you want, Mr. President. WE WON.

*nods* I had a half-formed version of the same thought, like, "If you'd done this last week maybe enough people would have been less pissed at you." Which led to "why now?" which led to the above conclusion.

And caused me to forget completely about the intermediate thought when I went to post. My brain is weird.
