Time is an illusion, Puccini time doubly so

I think pretty much everyone has finally reached the conclusion that attempting to count the wedding entrance (or, y'know, most of this opera) is going to make it harder, not easier. I'm convinced the only reason Puccini even bothered to have measures and time signatures is so people wouldn't panic immediately upon looking at the page. Because seriously, the tempo at any given time is so slippery they might as well just be there for decoration.

As generally happens when everyone lets go of the notion that those marks mean anything, suddenly it makes sense and we're managing to be together 95% of the time. Gotta love it. :-)

Not so much loving the addition of the Humming Chorus to the benefit program. *sigh* Yes, it's amazingly beautiful to listen to, but it's murder to sing. HUMMING a high B-flat. Twice. Mille grazie, Giaco. I know we're going to have to do it in the production anyway, but darnit, I was hoping to put that off a bit longer.

With Yum-Yum missing for a second rehearsal in a row, Solange decided it would be wise to have covers for all three girls just in case, and put me on Peep-Bo (ETA: in "Three Little Maids," part of the comic relief portion of the evening), which I didn't know at all. Fortunately, coming home and plinking through it a couple times solved that; turns out it's insanely simple and not at all taxing to my poor little melody-accustomed first-soprano brain. ;-)

Practice run on costumes and makeup Sunday afternoon. Must remember to take camera. :-)

Humming high B-flat's easier if you do it on an ng with your mouth open.

But you probably knew that.

*nods* From the last time I was in the piece, about 13 years ago. I'm hoping I'll hate it less this time due to more experience.

But thanks!

OMG! Small frickin' world!

I found you through nostalgia_lj's friends page, of all things.

Elgin, eh? I'll be singing with their symphony next year.

Keen! We have a couple people who are in also in the ESO chorus. I've lived there for a year and a half and haven't managed to make it to any of their performances yet; really should get around to it one of these years...

Nos is the center of the universe. *nods sagely* Kinda like Terminus, but without the radiation and the seven-foot scottie dog.

After your reply on the operasingers forum I decided to come and look at your blog. I noticed that there are a number of interests in common and hope you don't mind if I add you to my friends' list.
