Monday breaktime randomosity

I usually don't say why I'm not posting something I'm not posting, because I don't want it taken as an insult to those who have chosen to do so. And this certainly isn't; it just feels surreal to post today and not make some kind of nod to the "where were you when" of the day. I could do so, but I wasn't anywhere significant to anyone but me, and maybe GateGoers listsibs. So I won't.

Random thought of the day: If you really believe the details don't matter, chances are someone else is taking care of them.

I keep forgetting to post the information, but we need auction items for the Elgin Opera benefit on October 1. Consider this a *meaningful look* at the crafty types. It doesn't have to be big, and it doesn't have to be themed. Anything nice will be appreciated. And the bidders will be drinking. ;-)

Following my annual review, there is potential for life in the Office of DOOOOOOOM to become something that suits me a little better. In the short term, at least, there was a raise. Even if it's just that and the sunshine, it's seemed a bit more worth The Evil Commute this last week or so. Even the backlogs don't look quite so despair-inducing somehow.

Depending on if I can get it done in time, how about a hand-knit Peruvian wool drawstring pouch? ;) God, they're *so* easy to do.

So what type of "crafty" type stuff are you wanting for this?
Sep. 12th, 2006 11:05 am (UTC)
Anything you think people will buy.

I know last year they had a couple of knitted shawls & things. Somebody put in a certificate the buyer could trade in for a calligraphy project, like addressing wedding invitations.

People always think of auctions as needing big-ticket items, but smaller stuff helps too. And I have a lot of crafty friends. :-)

I've got some nice jewelry pieces if you'd like them. I'll bring them along with me to ChiCago!

That would be great! Maybe with a lining, so it could be used as a handbag? (I can do the lining if needed.)

I was thinking about that--either felting it or putting a lining in it. Lemme check it out when it's done and I'll tell you if I need a lining?

Works for me.

Want a painting? I seriously have more paintings than walls at this point and they are starting to stack up.

Absolutely! This is an arts-supporting crowd already, after all.

Can you come by and pick something up? If so, I can hand over the largest one (30" x 48", http://www.artwanted.com/imageview.cfm?id=386114). If I have to take it somewhere on the train, you'll get something small instead.

Oops, forgot to log in. But you could tell that was me anyway, right? :-)

Ooooh, cool.

Let me get back to you on the pickup thing, but it should be doable. The benefit isn't until 10/1.

Congratulations on the raise. I hope things work out for your job hopes. :)

I'll check and see if I have anything I can offer. I've got a couple of cross stitch pieces finished, but they'd need to be professionally framed, and that's just too expensive for me right now. :C

Totally understand -- framing is so expensive!

If I have a chance, I'll see if I can get a local place to donate it.

Let me know.... :)
