Son of Stupid Debtor Trick #692

Today's installment in the Saga of the Settlement That Wasn't? Closing office faxed me a quitclaim deed to execute. Betcha the debtor told THEM we said it's all hunky-dory too.

The level of delusion here really is mind-blowing.

I do hope for their buyer's sake that they come to their senses and just find a way to work out the damn payoff on the lien. If something like this had happened on top of everything else when we closed on our house, somebody would have had to DIE.

That poor buyer, to be caught in a mess like this... buying a home is hard enough, I'm given to believe, but when you're stuck up to your knees in Teh Worst Mess EVar!!1!!!, it must be so much worse....

I wonder if maybe the debtor is having to sell the house because of defaulting on the mortgage or some such, and the residual after the mortgage is paid will be less than the lien?

Which doesn't excuse the shenanigans, of course. But it might explain the note of desperation.

Oh, I have no doubt there's something on that order going on. But wow, is aggressive fraud NOT the solution...
