Revenge of the Sith (no spoilers)

Just three comments for now:

1. I won't say my faith in Master George is restored, but this one is pretty darn good.

2. I'm getting too old for this midnight business.

3. Anakin is an idiot. I realize we knew that, but dude. There just isn't a font big enough.

ETA: Moderate spoilers in comments.

What's the reaction shot? :-)

May. 19th, 2005 01:25 pm (UTC)
Um...I'll confirm it when I'm, y'know, awake, but right now it's "Yeah. Like that." With a trace of a tear or three.

Nothing galaxy-shattering, but I'm having that warm fuzzy feeling of it-doesn't-suck.

What size font do skywriters use? *g* 'Cause maybe that'd be a bit too big a font.

So, if I'm only gonna see one more movie this year, should it be this one, or should I save my pennies for Serenity? (Seeing as you've seen both and I've seen neither...)
May. 19th, 2005 01:55 pm (UTC)
If I could only see one, I think I'd have to say Serenity. It's a tough call, but more because of the tradition and cultural touchstoneyness of SW than the actual inherent quality of RotS.
May. 19th, 2005 02:28 pm (UTC)
It doesn't suck, huh? I might actually be bothered to go and see it, then. ;P
May. 19th, 2005 02:39 pm (UTC)
Nope. It most definitely does not suck. It's still SW, with everything that goes along with that, e.g. "Um, George, did anybody read that out loud before you made the actors say it?"

But it's good SW. :-)
May. 19th, 2005 02:52 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's amazing sometimes how bad the dialogue can be...
May. 19th, 2005 02:36 pm (UTC)
Hooray for it NOT sucking! Anakin - bah. "I'm going to save my wife by killing lots of people, including little kids. Yeah... she'll appreciate all I'm doing for her." Uh.. Dude. NO.

And you are NEVER too old for this midnight business ;)

May. 19th, 2005 02:40 pm (UTC)
I feel that way this morning. But less so with the caffeine kicking in. And as long as the work gets done, hey, whatever. ;-)
May. 19th, 2005 02:41 pm (UTC)
As for Anakin... LOTS more to say about that later.

When there is more time. And more caffeine and/or sleep. ;-D
May. 19th, 2005 04:36 pm (UTC)
I thought the ending was a tad rushed and the dialog was stiff, but liked it otherwise. Great ideas. I just wish someone else directed it. ;)

Yes, Anakin is an idiot and midnight (actually, our show was 12:30) is just too darn late for this 35 year old to be watching a movie when she has to go to work and think of creative things in the morning.
May. 19th, 2005 04:42 pm (UTC)
Thankfully, I don't have to be particularly creative. Especially on Thursdays, when generally the whole morning is taken up with a no-brainer administrative project. Otherwise I would have had to either skip it or take a half-day PTO today. :-)
May. 19th, 2005 04:44 pm (UTC)
I am tempted to take the afternoon off and go home for a nap. ;) I have a project that has to be worked on today, though.

Is there ANY attempt whatsoever by Lucas anywhere to explain the discrepancies between what happens at the end of this movie and dialogue between Luke and Leia in ROTJ when he asks her about her "real mother?"

Re: Sooo...
Not that I know of. I have a couple theories of my own, which will be outlined later. But having to meta that is one of my annoyances with it. *pout*

Re: Sooo...
Yeah...and I grilled a kid today and found out that MY previous (and to me, satisfying) wank for it won't work. I am therefore pissed about that bit.

Re: Sooo...
:: is all curious now :: Guess I should get my spoilery post up, so we can talk about what your previous one is. I'm trying to keep the spoilers in this one to a minimum...

Re: Sooo...
I wondered about the exact same thing. The only thing I can think of (as unrealistic as it is, but hey, this isSW) is that the 2 second shot of the newborn Leia looking at her upset/pining/dying mommy was what was imprinted in her memory. You have to admit that Leia WAS very young when she died and that her mother was very beautiful and sad. But now here comes reality, how many people can remember being born or anything happening right afterwards?

Regardless, I did enjoy the movie and after letting it mull around for a day after the midnight showing, I have to utter the very unpopular and soon to be criticized opinion that I felt very sorry for Anakin. Yeah, he had a lot of bad traits and a temper that even the Jedi couldn't train out of him, but Lucas did do a good job of showing how someone could be mislead and manipulated into doing horrible things by pushing the right buttons and leading with the appropriate carrots. What Anakin did was inexcusable but he started out on that bad path with the best of intentions and just kept digging himself in deeper and deeper until he was buried. It's a very sad situation and happens too often in real life. I think the story was well done, but would have been better with a better director who may have allowed some non-wooden diaglog between Anakin and Padme.

Re: Sooo...
Never said I didn't feel sorry for the kid. But he's still an idiot. ;-)

There'll be more elaboration on all of the above in big spoilery posts over the weekend.

BWAH! Oh, dude, that is the best.

Then again, on three hours of sleep, isn't everything?
May. 19th, 2005 10:25 pm (UTC)
LOL. Well the community maintainer made it, not me. But it's just so much fun to tag people with :)

I think I started developing the opinion that Anakin was an idiot three years ago when I saw AOTC. Now I'm just very angered by him and his actions. I've said it time and again - I'll never hate him, but by God, I'm very close to feeling that way after watching this one.

I think I started developing the opinion that Anakin was an idiot three years ago when I saw AOTC.

Yup. That was why we knew that. *sigh* I had a certain amount of patience for it (perhaps more than most of my friends) out of sheer acknowledgement that he was a teenage guy, and his brain therefore literally wasn't done developing. But that's supposed to get better, not worse.

Unless, of course, something interferes with the development. But that's for the big spoilery post.
