My relationship with my new ISP really should not begin with me stumping the nice (and not blatantly incompetent, for a change) tech support guy. It has become abundantly clear that I do not enjoy the favor of the telecom gods.

If I didn't have hubby the troubleshooting whiz to ask, I'd be screwed. I might still be screwed; we'll see after I call him tonight. Which is peeving me, because my system had no trouble finding DNS servers a month ago. The guy was convinced that it had to be something wrong with my TCP/IP files, and not a problem on their end. He got stuck after we deleted and reinstalled my TCP/IP config files, and got bupkus for our trouble. Ditto after I hung up with him and reinstalled the frelling OS. (Win98, for the record.) I'm getting connected to the service just fine, but it's not assigning me an IP address or any of that good stuff, so of course it can't resolve any host names. "Unknown host name" is not something you want to see in response to "ping www.yahoo.com" in the DOS shell, y'know?

Depending on what hubby comes up with, tonight's project may be finally getting around to backing up everything and its dog, wiping the hard drives, and starting over from scratch. Because, of course, I don't have anything better to do. *shoots nasty look at Microsoft*

Owie! Stupid Microsoft.

I hate it when the nuclear option's pretty much the best option, don't you?

*nods vigorously* Hate it lots. Especially when the damn thing has otherwise been on its best behavior lately.

Urgh! Evil Microsoft, bad Microsoft, inefficient code and overuse of processing space! :spits in their general direction: This is what happens when you tell business people to write code.

Um, not that I have an opinion or anything.

Stupid stinkin' Microsoft inefficient code.

(Back in the 1990's I was saying the same thing about Mac System 7...)
