Register for Winter Wonderland so you can actually go this year instead of hearing about it after the fact.

Preferably before next Friday, because there are things you can do with that $30 discount.

Note to other potentially interested parties: Playing with swords (and assorted other implements of inflicting pretend damage on one another). Ten minutes from my house. You know you wanna. ;->

Really gotta swing swords around more often. Because if I keep doing it infrequently, it's gonna kill me. *wince*

Memo to the young'uns out there in the ether: When they say "Use it or lose it," believe them. I'm just sayin'.

Fun with violence

Babes With Blades workshop was vast amounts of fun, and kicked my sorry out-of-shape ass. Pretty much as I expected. :-)

In which a dozen Rusty Broads pretend to kick the crap out of one another for seven hours )

Stephanie made a point of announcing that they're having auditions in June for their October show. I'm so there. Hopefully I'll be able to climb stairs like a normal person by then.

Wheels in motion

We have two functional bicycles again! It only took two years plus after moving to a house six blocks from a lovely scenic river with trails... *blush* As it turned out, although all four tires were flat, only one had an actual hole and needed the tube replaced. So it didn't take too long once I got started this afternoon.

Need to rewrap the handlebars, as the existing tape is cracked and flaking off. And at least one needs a headlamp, as I intend to start riding it to voice lessons and summer opera rehearsals. And we need to register them with the city.

But still, bikes! That we can actually ride! *bounce*

Yay! I'm in!

Chicago peeps? I'm sure this means they still have other space too...

Yikes.

We really did get a deal last year. O_o

I was thinking that if I didn't end up cast in anything in the next little while, I might continue what I started with the Barnum workshop by signing up for the summer Aerial Arts class, but $140 a week isn't something I can quite justify. :-/

Back to trying to fit the Elgin Parks & Rec dance classes into my life, methinks. Not that it's worked out terribly well in the past. Although not dressing a humongous sparkly musical for Summer Place will probably make it a bit easier to do summer session, again assuming no show.

ETA: Or better yet: http://www.babeswithblades.org/workshops.htm

"Rusty broads"... Yup, that's definitely me! It's been what, seven years since my poor rapier got to do anything but gather dust? Yeeeep.

I have hopes of someday being able to ditch the day job and concentrate on acting full-time. Usually I think of these hopes in terms of my mental health, of being able to devote my energy to what I love without having to pile it on top of 40 hours a week in an office whose purpose is perfectly necessary but less than inspiring.

Since those 40 hours are spent sitting on my butt at a desk, they also present a challenge to my physical health and the accompanying mindset. Case in point. )

I would like to point out that I intended to do this even before I heard this story on Morning Edition today. Once again bemused at the extent to which it continues to be "news" that we could all eat pretty much whatever we wanted if we were as physically active as our ancestors were when the instinct to want it evolved...
