And has been since last night, actually, but I am chipmunky and low-energy and slow with the posting. Go here for the master list of multi-fandom female-character-focussed goodness.
I had fun writing "Homecoming" (Heroes) for
karrenia_rune, who set me the challenge of following Caitlin's adventures in the future timeline.
And was delighted to receive "Rubber Ducky, You're the One!" (Blood Ties) from
deire, who gave me my favorite P.I. and goth-girl-Friday and both their moms, all in the same place at the same time. And as if that weren't already worth the price of admission, there's an extra giggle courtesy of His Royal Smugness. (He really does need to be smacked. Often. With great affection, of course.)
Among the sixty-plus offerings, a few of my favorites:
"Three Months Out. Six To Go. (Perfect Time For a Big Sister Freak Out.)" (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) by
havocthecat. You might think that being nearly thirty and married would let Dawn out of Buffy coming unglued at the news that she's going to be an aunt. You would, of course, be mistaken. Funny and a bit poignant, with fantastic family stuff (counting both Summerses and Scoobies as "family," of course).
"Starwort" (Forever Knight) by
brightknightie, who went well above and beyond the ficathon's 1,000-word call with an older and wiser Fleur encountering LaCroix again, seven years after the "Be My Valentine" flashbacks. Fleur often gets a bad rap in fandom, as a victim of that ep's clumsy use of romance tropes, but this story takes the best of that girl we met and grows her into a worthy woman indeed.
"Silkscreen" (Firefly) by
llyfrgell is a lovely look, through Zoe's eyes, at Inara's arrival and the beginnings of her becoming part of the family of Serenity's crew.
"All Witches Go to Limbo (The Unbaptized Innocents Refrain)" (BtVS/Charmed crossover) by
wisdomeagle. Tara and Prue cross paths in the afterlife. Delicate, poignant, and respectful of both universes' magic systems and relationships.
"Electric Vengeance" (Heroes) by
larah33. A creepy and weirdly exhilarating ride into Elle's broken psyche. Gives her credit for more complexity than canon left room for (which most assuredly does not translate as reform or apologia).
"The Verse That Was" (Firefly) by
spiletta42 is a nicely crafted caper with a believable key role for Inara, and great glimpses into everyone's character.

FK, "For I Have Sinned."
:: stares at Joan of Arc :: Dude. I had completely forgotten how obviously the Slightly Dodgy French Accent so doesn't sound like Christina's voice. Which I realized way back when she turned up again in a smaller role in season 2, and I went "Hey, that's Joan! Wow, she sounds completely different, and it ain't just the accent."
I wonder why. Did they have her play it in her natural accent on set, and then change their minds? I always found it rather annoying anyway, as I always do when characters who are assumed to be speaking something other than English to each other are presented in English accented with that language. Especially when they only saddle one person in the scene with it. It just doesn't make intuitive sense to me. Plus it was too obviously ADR just soundwise, something FK suffered from more often than I would like. Another hazard of falling in love with shows that have no money.
It's possible that they did bring her back in to dub herself, I guess. (I wouldn't have said that before Vicki's information-gathering phone persona in "5:55", with the back-resonating Mississippi Delta vowels completely altering her timbre.) But I'm pretty sure it's someone else -- it just doesn't quite go with the nonverbal she's doing. (Which incidentally, kicks some serious ass. She was nineteen. And people wonder why I always zoom in on her in anything.) Too bad there's no way to hear how the lines really sounded.

...because I've seen you both pondering crossover potential. Just because l don't think it's logistically feasible...
You remember the baby uniform in "Close Call"? The one who gave Schanke a parking ticket, busted his chops about the Caddy not being his, and was deeply unimpressed when he tried to pull rank?
( This baby uniform? )
She never does get a name... :: whistles innocently ::

Got an email from someone looking to find out what has become of the various Janette costumes that got out into the world. I had to tell her I have no idea who bought any of the ones Peggy was offering for sale on Deb's behalf through the fan club, and that I didn't get to go to Bridging the Knight and haven't the first clue what happened at the auction there.
I know a few people here did go, tho, -- any idea who might have gone home with any of Janette's wardrobe? I don't know the person asking, but I assume she's hoping to track pieces down and make people offers on them, or get to see them up close for reference, or something along those lines.

Since pretty much everyone I still have contact with in that fandom is on LJ. :-) I received the following request in my email this morning:
Hi there -- do you happen to have any video (or do you know anyone who does) of the Forever Knight "Dead of Winter II" fan convention of 1995? If so, I'd love to purchase a copy -- I met my husband at the convention.
I can't help her, and I don't really recall any camcorders floating about at the con. But it's been 11 years (!!!) and you never know. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Every time we rehearse "Gaston," my brain jumps immediately to the Vachon Song from War V.

Now, I did remember that the strip club manager in "Dance By the Light of the Moon" was Patrick McKenna (a/k/a Jay Felger, to SG-1 fans). But it's still inordinately amusing to watch him being all sleazy and yet still a bit of a dork. *chuckle* The flip side of picturing him announcing "sexy, sexy Serena" every time Felger turns up...

I remembered that Brad Wright wrote a couple of first season FK eps, but forgot that "Last Act" was one of them. Certainly in the top five best eps, and the one in which Torri Higginson (whom we'll soon be seeing as Dr. Weir on SG:Atlantis) first made an impression on me.
Twelve years later, and full circle of sorts. :-)

Okay, I lied. We interrupt this insane workday for a brief Squeeing Fangirl Moment, courtesy of
suzvoy's pointing out of the Atlantis casting announcement.
Torri! TorriTorriTorriTorriTORRI!
I have loved that woman to bits ever since Erica did her Cathy Earnshaw impression on FK. (And the accumulation of FK alumni in the 'Gateverse continues. Yet somehow they seem to be immune to the unwritten law that you can't make a TV show in Canada without putting Nigel on it at some point. *chuckle*) I was almost as cranky that they killed off her character in the first ep of HL:TR (yeah, yeah, like I didn't see it coming a mile away, but still) as I was about the suckitude of the show as a whole (and the fact that they had Liz Gracen playing some chick who happened to be named Amanda and happened to be an Immortal thief, but who otherwise bore no resemblance to anyone I knew).
I was kinda bummed when I heard that Jessica Steen would be replaced. But, Torri!
This concludes our Squeeing Fangirl Moment for today. We will now return to the exciting world of collections and give your virtual ears a rest. ;-)

The look on
amilyn's face when Husband surprised her with FK DVDs that arrived today was really, really entertaining.
The big ol' geeky impromptu NatPack bouncefest now occurring in her living room is also really, really entertaining.
I'm going to get my tea and go back to it now.
P.S.-- Yes, they're the Canadian cuts. We checked "Only the Lonely" first. I'm sure you're all terribly shocked.
