Seen every-bloody-where, because we're just like that. I did actually think of doing it before I saw everyone else doing it, pretty much immediately upon reading "Your Friends Are Not Watching the Same Show You Are (And That's Okay)", but since I have no doubt that pretty much everyone I know independently did the same thing, it all comes out in the lemmingy wash. ;-)

There are way thinkier and/or more creative things I want to post about, but the quick and easy will have to do for now.

Just a few quick thoughts...
( Doctor Who: Spoilers for 4x01 'Partners in Crime' )
All in all, a fun ride, that hopefully bodes well for more fun to come. They could use some fun for a while.

What with this and that and the other, we've been running two to three weeks behind on Doctor Who for a while, but got caught up today. I don't think I really have any Grand Thinky-Thoughts, but I have a few random little ones.
( Spoilers through 3.09 "Family of Blood )
So, there we are, and yay! I can click on other people's cut tags again! :-D Now I just have to get caught up on about a month of Stargates...

As always with RTD, loved the dialogue and the character stuff. But is there going to be a branch of science left that he hasn't eviscerated by the time this show is done?
No more attempting plot for you, me boyo. Unless you start writing for a universe with full-blown magic.
nostalgia_lj really hit it right on the head when she predicted that (because it was Rusty) it would be approximately equal parts of genius and complete shite, with the occasional anvil. *snerk*
Ah, well. What's a fun episode of Doctor Who without a few full-body cringes? %-}

For a myriad of reasons, but at the moment? "It's a laboratory. Or it could be a nursery." *chuckle*

Caught part of the "Mysterious Theatre 337" sporking of "Battlefield," which was pretty funny. (Albeit kind of an easy target. And after third comment about the size of Jean Marsh's nostrils, I kinda wanted to bop somebody. But most of it was right on target.)
Managed to render
taraljc positively crestfallen by explaining that we can't go to Gally because we'll be on a ship somewhere in the middle of the Caribbean that weekend. Which makes me doubly sad after meeting Shaun Lyon, who seems a very cool guy whose con I'd certainly like to attend. Maybe for 2008.
All in all, fun con. So very very very going to stay in the hotel all weekend next year.

Con report still to come. But I had to report that, per usual, I have been struck by next year's concept within the week after the con.
In the spirit of not doing a massive construction project two years in a row, but still hopefully presenting something entertaining, it will involve a ballgown, surgical scrubs, and a karaoke track for "Un bel dì vedremo." And probably a nice young man in a clean white coat. ;->

And I was rather a zombie clockdroid upon getting home from the con last evening, and had a looong day at work today. So I'm too lazy tonight to do anything but throw all the pics
amilyn took with my camera up in this gallery. Actual con report later. Possibly not before the weekend.

As of yesterday morning, I was ready to be a clockdroid in its undergarments. :-)
BIG weekend of accomplishment. As of going to bed last night: Everything cut out. Petticoat-to-be-seen completed. Bodice lining and under-stomacher completed and confirmed to fit. Sleeves assembled and embellished (much easier to do when not attached to dress).
I had forgotten that the stripe in the brocade goes across the width of the fabric (not uncommon with decorator fabrics), and fronts and backs of the gown are one piece from shoulder to hem. The directions say to extend the gown pieces 34 inches past the end of the pattern piece (drafted for a caraco), and I ran out of width at 27 inches past. I can't really tell until it's assembled whether it will come up short and by how much. If it does, I'll add a flounce. Which bothered me more yesterday, when I thought it was period to put one on the petticoat but not the outer gown. Then I found this picture. Which doesn't really have a flounce per se, but does seem to be using the ruffle-as-trim to make up for a shortcoming at the front edges of the robe. If I run into a problem, I'm thinking at this point that it will only be in the front (the side extensions are cut separately and do come from the waist, so I didn't have any problem cutting them with plenty of length to go over the pocket hoops). Which, in looking at a number of photos of extant gowns, I'm thinking might not even really be a problem anyway.
On the mask front, the crackle medium didn't really work the way I hoped it would. After a quick look around online, I'm going to hit a home improvement store and try a product meant for furniture. If it doesn't test out well, I'll leave the mask as it is, which is not as antiquey-looking as I would like but more than identifiable.
Need to hit thrift store and find a high-necked blouse with a jabot to make into a dickey, and hopefully some more period-appropriate shoes than I currently own. Need to set wig on rollers (which will probably be my sitting-around-the-living-room activity on Thanksgiving).
CT-minus five days, and so far not expecting to need any inhumanly late nights... :: knocks on wood ::

Busy-busy with other stuff the last couple weeks, haven't gotten much of anywhere since the last update. Will be buzzing away the next couple weekends!!
The mask is about half done; I need to get the dimensional gold paint and the crackle-finish coating to finish it up.
The stays are definitely the most time-consuming item. Or if they're not, I'm in a lot of trouble! %-} But I have no reason to think they won't be; the smallest piece always seems to be the most complicated, and make it seem like I'll never be done in time! Still only partway through binding the edges, and then lots of grommets to pound. Not looking forward to that last part. :-/
Having ascertained that I wasn't hallucinating having laid in a supply of hoopsteel (still in the package mailed from Farthingales five years ago!!), I'm set to start on the pocket hoops next. I was actually briefly considering ordering a ready-made set -- out of the question with the stays, as I'm too much of a corset snob, but worth considering with those. Or so I thought. It quickly became apparent that it would probably take me almost as long to find a satisfactory pair as to just make the darn things.
Goal for this weekend: finish stays, make pocket hoops and quilted petticoat.
I may end up taking a chance and skipping some parts of the practice version of the dress. Stay tuned...

Mini!Reinette is done, and will be given to Elf on Thursday night, so she'll have it in time for Halloween. *bounce*
My stays are assembled and boned. Need to clean house today too, but hopefully will get the edges bound and at least some of the grommets installed today.
Mask has arrived and has had two coats of antique white paint applied. Now it just needs the detailing, the crackle coat, and ties.
Next up: Pocket hoops. For which I might need to order more boning, as I used up most of my supply of good plastic "whalebone" in the stays. I think I may have ordered some bulk spring steel boning along with some precut steel stays a while back, but I'm not sure. Must investigate. And then see if I want to mess with cutting and tipping the steel for this project.
If Farthingales ever went out of business, I would be so screwed. I'm sure you can get this stuff elsewhere, but it's the most convenient one-stop shop I've found.

No repost this week, as I didn't post anything of substance when I first saw the ep.
brainiacfive, however, did, and it was pretty darn cool. And makes sense to the point where I have trouble remembering it isn't explicitly canon.
