Back from Wisconsin. Very tired puppy. Think it went pretty well -- they were nice, but you can never tell anything, and trying to second-guess just makes you crazy. Curiously, in the half-hour or so I was there, I was the only woman amid four guys. No way to tell if that's even remotely representative of the four days of open call, tho.
I've been thinking I should change "ASL" to "sign language" on the skills list on my resume for clarity (if not precision), but keep forgetting to do it, and today it became a conversation piece when they asked what it was. I of course automatically started sim-comming my answer in the middle of saying how rusty I was. IR Dork. They seemed impressed. (I didn't tell them I realized some of the signs were wrong as I was signing them. They didn't know the difference.) No idea whether that means anything. *shrug*
Coincidentally, ran into a middle-aged gentleman studying The Joy of Signing in the food court at Union Station while waiting for my connecting train. He's taking his third class just because he wanted to learn it. He's a carpenter, but he used to be a barber, and had a deaf customer whose son always came in to interpret for him, and the guy decided he wanted to learn it for himself. Yay!
Watched four eps of The Border on my Zen on the train. (I love technology. I can't read in a moving vehicle without getting motion sick, but I can watch all the teeny-tiny TV I want.) CATH!!! *bounce*bounce*bounce* Maggie is awesomecakes. Have only seen Nigel's character in one ep so far. Needs to be smacked soundly, of course. For such a lovely sweet man, he really does have quite the record of specializing in the morally impaired. He plays such good nice guys too, but nobody ever seems to let him anymore. The show itself is decent -- not necessarily something I'd watch for itself, but well done. Love the computer geek guy. Leila and Grey are getting interesting.
Did I mention very tired? Going to be lump on couch for rest of evening now. *spuh*

Once again I'm a couple weeks late to the party. (I need another July to recover from this one! %-} ) On the upside, though, lots of stuff is now googleable for my convenience.
shadowmaat's comment on the "ten shows" meme the other day was my first inkling that the tinkering with the new Bionic Woman included scrapping kid sister Becca, at least as she was seen in the clip that was posted online a couple months ago. (Which is, alas, no longer available on the Trib's website. Also, for the record, I'm not saying I've seen any more of Becca than that. Not saying that at all. Nopenopenope. Because That Would Be Wrong.)
( In which Val rambles at length about the scuttlebutt putting a crimp in her inner six-year-old's Bionic Squee )
I'm still holding out hope for a good show. But my inner six-year-old is seriously wanting to kick some suit-clad kneecaps right now. :-PPPP

I've been running into what seems like an inordinate amount of ASL/Deaf culture stuff lately, and realizing how much I miss having the language in my body. Decided yesterday that I should give Signstage a call and see when their auditions are for next season. I told them after Pooh tour that I wasn't up for another season of that craziness, but it's been six years since then, and if they wanted me to do it, I think I could. Although it would be a lot nicer to get into the resident company and (a) live in one place (despite the demonic activity, I actually rather like Cleveland), and (b) do grownup theatre.
I should look into some of the other Deaf companies too and see how they've developed since I've been out of the loop. Signstage letting hearing actors do anything but voice was kind of unique when I was with them, but it's always possible that's changed. I should really at least get my interpreting skills back up to snuff one of these days.
It's a shame the Deaf Entertainment Guild went *pffffft*. It was such a great idea. *sigh*
