This time it's Sister-In-Love's turn to be not so sure:

In the car with the kids and this stupid driver is driving like crap so I said "move for Christ sake". [ShinyHappyNiece] then starts singing "move for christ sake, move for Christ sake, Christ sake, chriiiiiiiiiist saaaaaake." Good thing I didn't say what I really wanted to say.

Heh. We have a similar story, in which my young nephew overheard his daddy while they were in the car and later was found dancing around a bush in the front yard singing "Fucking around, fucking around, fucking around!"

My dad always said that the words children learn most quickly are the words you really did not mean for them to hear. He told the story of our oldest sister learning "Dammit!" when he was trying to fix the pipes under the sink.

There's a lot of truth to that. I suspect it's a combination of the words being easy to say and the way that we tend to say them with such force. :-D

*giggles at your niece!*

My daughter did this when she was two. A car almost t-boned us in a parking lot, and I screeched to a halt and took a deep, relieved breath. I said nothing, but N knew what was appropriate to the situation, because from the back seat, I heard a little voice say, "Son of a bitch!"

She had my inflection DOWN. That started me cleaning up my language around her very quickly!
