Jessica Hamby's blog

Finally getting around to checking it out (at babyvamp-jessica.com), and it's brilliant. Mostly video blogs, though there are a few text entries too. Whoever writes it knows teenagers for sure. It starts early/mid-season-3, with Jess alone in Bill's house trying to figure out what's going on. Also, Deborah Ann Woll is the most adorable thing EVER.

I shouldn't be surprised anymore by well-executed universe-enriching web content, I suppose, but the field has grown so fast that I still kind of am.

I know that I can google this character and learn from which universe she comes, but I thought that before I did so, I would tell you that I was doing so... ah, True Blood! Very famous and popular and on a channel I don't get. ;-) I am so out of things... :-)

The images that pop up on the top of the search say "this series's Daisy" to me. Yes? No?

Sorry, I have a habit of tagging but not actually mentioning in the post or subject line.

I suspect Jess would be rather in awe of Daisy. And should definitely be kept away from her. I don't know if I can think of a clear equivalent to her in another universe.

There was a plot point in S1 where Bill killed another vampire to save Sookie, and there was a trial resulting in his being ordered to turn a new vampire to make up for it. Jessica was a teenage girl they kidnapped randomly off the street for that purpose. She's a homeschooled kid from an extremely conservative family, and had about twelve seconds of "I'm a vampire! NO RULES!!!" before reality set in. She still sort of vacillates between boundary-pushing and "eeep, help, tell me what to do," in a way that rings very true for a sheltered kid shoved into a very nasty world.

She's generally very sweet, but also impulsive and tends to screw up a lot, and is one-half of the only couple I have any investment in. (Her human boyfriend Hoyt is a bit older, like mid-20s, but only recently broke away from extremely codependent Momma's apron strings. And is also generally very sweet.)

Bill initially tried to dump her on someone else to "raise," and when she got dumped back, he proceeded to demonstrate just about every flavor of well-intentioned poor parenting you can think of. One of many reasons I've completely lost patience with him.

Ooops, I forgot to look for a tag! :-) Sorry. Possibly I need to reformat my journal style to make those more prominent.

Thanks for the run-down! I'm laughing at the idea of a vampire universe in which depopulation is a problem. Usually, the vampire percentage of the general population seems to grow season after season. ;-)

Certainly the vampire percentage of the cast generally does! :-D

I'm not convinced it is a problem in this universe either, of course, but their laws apparently think otherwise.
