Two things

And two things only, just because I'm so not going to have time or brainspace for proper meta at pretty much any point this season.

Thing One: Anyone else getting massive Faction Paradox flashbacks from the Silence? I mean, not identical by any means, but there's a vibe. I started thinking that with the control room that looked like a TARDIS console room crossed with a crypt. (Though now it seems like that was maybe a later-time version of the one we saw in this ep, with the skulls being those of the Silence that River shot? I'm a bit fuzzy on that.) And then the Silence themselves, who look a bit like greys, but in a way that also suggests skulls (like Faction Paradox's masks).

And now apparently Amy is/isn't having Schroedinger's baby, as if she's existing in two timelines at once (or, like Sam, has two sets of "biodata"). Which is very much the sort of headache-inducing circumstance FP exists to create.

I don't think this line of thought is really taking me anywhere in terms of speculation on where the season will go or whatever, because even if there is a bit of inspiration/homage going on, that's all it is. Just observing because it's interesting to me.

Thing Two: I am now, for the first time, tempted to do an Amy Pond outfit. And also counting down the seconds to Pirate Amy photos turning up on dw_cosplay. Wheeeeeee!

I don't think it's sad at all. It underscores the sort of corpselike creepiness of them.

I thought specifically of you and havocthecat when is saw the pirate wench costume.

GORGEOUS.

I set with mtgat on her sofa, watched on BBCA, and we just...JAW-DROPPED over River. Alex Kingston is SO MUCH LOVE. Just...WOW. Her REACTION shots. MMMMMM.

Yeah. I need at least one River icon. Badly. I have no ideas. mtgat has the BEST icon idea EVER. And nancybrown has THIS AMAZING ICON.

But...I just don't have ideas yet.

Also, my one river gripe..."We do what the Doctor's friends always do. As we're told." Ummm...SINCE WHEN????? I mean, that would be like SINCE NEVER! Heee.

I had the same thought, then realized, "Rule One: The Doctor lies."

Rule Two: So does River.

Comcast loves me. I don't have BBC America, but Comcast On Demand includes the new Doctor Who episodes for free. Whee!

I had to work hard at not being distracted by "Excuse me, but I lived through Watergate, and whoever that is, it's not Tricky Dicky."

Aside from that, I'm thinking the writers are working very hard at messing with our minds.

[SMALL SPOILERS FOLLOW]

Small moments I loved: "Doctor Renfrew" in the derelict orphanage. The Doctor's Delphic response to Nixon asking him if he'll be remembered. Canton's marriage revelation. River Song in a 1960s suit. Rory in nerd glasses (OMG TEH HOTNESS).

Yeah, we were racking our brains to figure out who was in disguise as Nixon, before realizing, no, that was really meant to be him. And, um, no. But whatever.

We do have BBCA, and I'd love Comcast more if they'd give us the HD edition, but we have it for pretty much every other channel we care about, so I guess I can't complain.

"Say hello to David Frost for me." :-D

For all I know, Nixon did have a glad-handing "campaign" personality. But everything I remember about him and all I've read about him suggest he was incapable of that behavior. He was a paranoid sonofabitch.

Yes, "Say hello to David Frost for me" and Nixon's puzzlement amused me considerably.

(On the subject of Nixon: immediately after the TV broadcast of his resignation speech, the Columbus OH station I was watching ran an ad for Kings Island, with the background music "Happy Days Are Here Again". I shall go to my grave wondering whether that was coincidence.)
