Gee, thanks, dude

Just found out an attorney we used to use (not for several years, thank goodness) has been, long story short, disbarred for shady collection practices that damaged both debtors and clients.

Because, you know, this industry doesn't have a crappy enough reputation and isn't a generally icky one to work in ALREADY.

Yeah, this is why we can't have nice things. Even after getting past the "ambulance chaser" stereotype...

Nothing like tilting the public perception of "necessary evil" to an emphasis on "evil." :-P

Eek! Were any of your debtors and clients affected?

Not that I'm aware of. We haven't used him in at least five years. But still, freaky.

Oh how charming and utterly defeating of the point of your jobs...

I'm thinking of a moment in the most recent Doctor Who season when the Doctor tells the guest stars and companion that they have to represent "the best of humanity," just long enough to save the world.

I wish that more people were better more of the time. Sorry for the slime in your vicinity.

Thankfully, like the Doctor, I don't actually think that "best" is in as short a supply as it often seems.

Thanks. And people wonder why I generally stick with "Office of Doom"... y'know, until I tell them what it is. :-P

The attorney who came in and did the 'guns and the law' speech for my NRA gun safety class, and who gave us all his cards since he was one of only two attorneys in the state who specialized in that sort of case, was convicted about 2 years later of hiring someone to kill his wife and is now in jail for life without the possibility of parole.

I don't think his card will do me much good anymore.

No, probably not. Unless, y'know, he's one of those convicts who attract freaky fangirls. But you'd have to actually contact them in order to sell it...

*grins*

And here I'd been thinking if I somehow happened to kill someone in self-defense with the gun I neither carry nor own, I wouldn't know a lawyer, but now I see the potential monetary value... ;)
