New Vid: I Stand

Yes, I have committed vid again. (Next one will be "Dance With the Angels," lizbetann, I swear, but this one had to get out of my system.)

Song: I Stand
Artist: Idina Menzel
Fandom: Being Human (spoilers through 2x08)
Summary: Life is frequently and drastically unfair. It's up to us to make it worthwhile anyway.

On YouTube.

Also! I have finally done a little investigating of the FAQ, and have thus discovered CaptionTube, which is ridiculously easy to use. I will therefore be captioning the rest of my vids later tonight. \o/

Edit: Aaaand I just captioned "Waking the Witch." That was interesting...

Hey, is there a way to turn off the captions? I may have missed that, but I just started watching and--at least for a first viewing--it's really distracting. ;)

Oooooh! I like it, though! :-)

Thankees! There's one cut that's bothering me slightly, but since it doesn't seem to consistently switch before the line is finished, I decided to chalk it up as done. :-)

There's a CC button at the bottom right. It's red if they're on; if you click it they should turn off.

I'm looking through settings to figure out where to default them to off, but I think it might be a viewer setting thing.

four-part harmony
At two viewings:

This vid has reminded me of what I loved about Being Human in the first place, and made me think of rewatching it for the first time since second season turned me out. Excellent choice of song -- should I look up this artist? -- and a beautiful entwining of it and BH.

I most particularly like the circle of "hero to save me" from Mitchell reaching out to George, to George reaching out to Mitchell. (It's not that I didn't notice Nina and Annie's turns; it's that the rising spiral of the circle is most powerful.)

It brought tears to my eyes, just a little.

Re: four-part harmony
(Must make new ensemble icon!)

Thank you!

made me think of rewatching it for the first time since second season turned me out.

If you do, I hope the heart is more apparent in S2 at second glance. It's a bit bruised, but still there.

Excellent choice of song -- should I look up this artist?

It's been pretty much my personal theme song for the last couple years. Which, since it fits BH so well, says a lot about my current attachment to the show. :-)

You would probably enjoy this album more than her earlier one, Still I Can't Be Still, which I love but which is markedly less accessible and more eclectic. This is the title track of the album, and reliably representative of it, if also very much my favorite. "I Feel Everything" is also from it, as is "Gorgeous" (which found its way onto my playlists for both Titania and Lizzie).

It's the same Idina Menzel who originated the roles of Maureen and Elphaba. She writes most of her own songs, and I love her perspective in general.

the circle of "hero to save me" from Mitchell reaching out to George, to George reaching out to Mitchell.

That was pure serendipity! I didn't notice it until my second watch through the first finished draft, and then it made me very happy indeed.

(It's not that I didn't notice Nina and Annie's turns; it's that the rising spiral of the circle is most powerful.)

It's important from a storytelling standpoint to hold the balance, but the fact is the boys have been together longest, and everything else has grown from that. Circle, backbone, envelope? One or more of the above, but in any case it's almost impossible for it not to be apparent in any distillation of the story arc. It's intrinsic to the images they've given us.

technicalities
Three cheers for captions! Oh, marvelous, so satisfying to really know every word that's being sung! Music communicates so very much on its own, but I'm a creature of words, and I just can't hear them as well as I can read them. Thank you so much for putting in the extra work on that.

I don't know much about YouTube; is there a way for me to download the vid so that I may watch it in the future whenever I like? Or am I supposed to bookmark it? Or something else?

Thank you so much for putting in the extra work on that.

You're welcome! It was actually kind of fun. I've done all the vids now, though they weren't all showing up yet when I last looked an hour or so again.

Eventually I'm going to get my fannish site updated with downloadable versions of all my vids. In the meantime, I'll toss this one up for you to grab.

Should you want things not made by people you know *g*, there's a Firefox plugin called DownloadHelper that will grab most Flash-based streaming media.

Re: technicalities
Thank you! I have it now. You're very good to me. :-)

And I'll look up that download for Firefox. I do have both it and IE installed, of course, but the habit of IE as primary dates back quite a ways.

Re: technicalities
I hope you don't mind, but I've snagged the file, too. I was going to ask, but since it's here...

Re: technicalities
Of course! I really do just need to make everything downloadable eventually, but by all means take advantage of what there is. :-)

Okay. That's it. I have to check out the show.

My work here is done. ;->

It is and isn't the same as the pilot. In any case, I Love It Beyond Words.

Both seasons are indeed out on Region 1 now, though I understand there's been some music substitution. Apparently the Beeb still isn't always getting their home video clearances ahead of time. :-/

I haven't seen the DVD versions yet, so I don't know yet how much that affects things, but there have been times when music was used extremely effectively, so I have trepidation.

This vid literally (yes, literally) takes my breath away. The song could have been written with this show in mind.

Having finally finished S2, and finding time to get back over here, I have finally watched this. It's terrific. Like one of the commenters above, the Mitchell as hero, then George part really worked beautifully for me (as did the vid itself, of course) and made me choke up a bit. And overall there's a really nice sense of motion and flow.

Just lovely.

Thank you so much! I love the song and the show both immensely, and was so pleased with how they came together.
