Damn damn damn damn

Not because I've grown accustomed to anyone's face, but because, before a couple months ago, I was accustomed to having a working dryer in my house.

Finally broke down and bought the whole $*#&($ motor in order to get the centrifugal switch. (Would actually have done so much sooner, but, well, busy.) Successfully swapped out the switch, which tests fine re: continuity. Checked on the gas valve while I was in there, since it was next on the troubleshooting list. Fine as far as I could tell; the descriptions of things in the service manual are a little confusing.

Put everything back together again. Turned on gas supply and plugged in dryer. Dampened a towel and tossed it in on a regular cycle.

STILL. NO. FRELLING. HEAT.

Next steps on the troubleshooting list are electronic circuit things beyond my level. I am hereby abdicating my Queen of All DIY crown, because this damn thing has beaten me. *snarl*

Guess I'll be spending tomorrow at the laundromat, because we desperately need clean... everything, really... and it's too rainy this weekend for the clothesline.

We really, really don't need to be buying a new dryer right now. It's way out of warranty, so I have no idea what the cost difference would be between that and calling a lonely Maytag repair guy, but the whole point of what I've been doing for the last couple months has been to avoid either expense.

Damn damn damn damn DAMN.

That is so unfair. After you'd put such good effort into it, the least it could do is work.

Can you at least get a tax deduction for buying a more energy-efficient appliance?

Hadn't thought of that. Definitely worth keeping in mind if it comes to that!

that stinks :(

Mine has started squeaking a bit again; last time it was the rollers, but we just replaced those in january, so not sure if it's the same or if there's something else going on. On the other hand, at least it's heating! And the noise is (at the moment anyway) mostly low-level and only the first portion of running.

Looking around for chance to move right now, and the last few places have all come with W/D. If i end up someplace like that, you'd be welcome to have my old one if you haven't resolved yours in the meantime. No guarantees how long it'll go, but might buy you a bit more time. On the other hand likely won't know about anything for a couple more weeks

If we do have to get a new one, we'll likely just bite the bullet and go new-new. But thank you!! And good luck with the moving!

Let me know if you want the number of the repair service that fixed our washer. You can at least call them and get an idea of what's going on via a verbal description, hopefully.

That would be great! The plan is to call someone in the next couple days.
