  • We can has femme_fic! Signup and rules post is here. The mods have changed from the matchup model to a prompt-claiming format this time around, meaning you don't have to participate in order to submit (up to three) prompts. The fandom field is wide open, and prompt submission is open until 8/16.

  • Dryer still borked. What with the weekend being all about WATCH ALL THE VIDS, the hunt for the centrifugal switch has been on hold. I'm going to carve out a chunk of Friday to call around to a bunch of repair shops and see if there isn't one hiding in a corner somewhere. In the meantime, the rain we were supposed to get today didn't happen, and there's even a nice breeze going on. So with any luck, the sheets I washed after work today will be ready to put on our bed tonight. This would be a Really Good Thing.

  • I am ITCHY. I was outside for all of ten minutes the other day, caulking a leaky basement window, and got eaten alive. I would love to know what it is that has made the little monsters come after me liek woah for my entire life. I'm like Bella Swan for mosquitoes instead of sparklepires. But with less moping and needing to be slapped.

  • How did it get to be August 11?? Too much costuming needs done before Dragon*Con!

  • Audition this afternoon (for the pro classical theatre with the added benefit of being 10 minutes from Office of Doom) felt pretty good. Especially for using a piece I picked on the spur of the moment last night, because they wanted "short classical, preferably not Shakespeare." I went with Christina Rossetti's "Monna Innominata" sonnet 11, which gives a nicely specific sense of character for both the speaker and the addressee. Directors typically don't like to hear sonnets for Shakespeare because they don't have a larger story to be part of, but for this situation it worked because (a) "Monna Innominata" is fourteen related sonnets that do tell a story, in a way, and (b) the show I'm up for is constructed from Poe stories and poetry. So it was a good opportunity to do something a bit unconventional, and I've immediately become very fond of it. And it got a good reaction from the artistic director, so maybe I'll find something else to use it for in future.

  • There is something supremely wiggy about "Free to Be You and Me" being used in commercials. I suspect this is not the effect Target is looking for.

  • I will have vid recs from VVC for you by the weekend. Pinky swear!

A bunch of my steampunk friends will be at dragon con! If you meet GD Falksen at any point, tell him you're a friend of mine. :) Also, anyone associated with the AIR Steampunk game. :)

D*C is mind-bogglingly ginormous, but I'll keep it in mind. (Seriously. FOUR HOTELS. I have trepidation.)

Wow, four hotels? I remember when I attended while in high school, and I thought it was big already back then.

I haven't seen this commercial, but just knowing that Target is using "Free to Be You and Me" in a commercial is sending my irony meter into the red zone. It's under fire because its PAC and CEO are donating to rightwing and anti-gay campaigns. "Free to be you and me... unless we're gay."

Yeah, that angle just makes it all the more special. :-P I know they've done the whole PR-apology bit already, la-la, but still.

"I know they've done the whole PR-apology bit already"

Which, last I heard, did not include promising to stop trying to buy elections.

Hey! We should totally do a wave'n'walk at Dragon*Con - an actual meetup might be a little difficult. *grin*

Are you planning on attending any of the tracks?

Right now my plans mostly involve various superhero photoshoots and some Brit Media track stuff. I put in to be on the costuming and BH panels, but I don't know yet if they put me on either.

If you email me, I'll send you my cell number.
