Scrambled Shakespeare

We always said at Rosebriar that Macbeth was our GOOD luck show (three quite successful productions in ten years), but Hamlet was the one that was cursed. Both productions (I was there for the second, but not for the first) just had really weird atmospheres, and made people CRAZY who were laid-back and levelheaded in every other show. I kid you not.

It also generated a doozy of a quote list (Rule of thumb: The higher the body count onstage, the longer the quote list backstage), and I therefore can no longer hear certain lines without giggling.

To wit, no matter how well the soliloquy following Hamlet's encounter with his father's ghost is done (and Tennant just did it quite well indeed on PBS), my brain will answer, "Smiling damnéd KLUTZ!"

Never having been in a real production of Hamlet, I always have the problem that my brain fills in lines from the MST3K version. Especially during the last scene:

"Now the king drinks to Hamlet!"
"Hell, the king drinks to ANYTHING!"

"The drink, the drink -- "
"One last Old-Fashioned before I die!"

"It's cherry-flavored kids' poison! He should love it!"

"Is thy union here?"
"Federation of Kings, Local 12."

"Unfortunately, they're Northwest flights of angels, so they'll be late."

OMG. :: dies ::

I think I was vaguely aware that they had done it, but have never actually seen it. Which movie did they do?

Heee!!! I've heard of it, but I think I was at work or something when I saw it linked and couldn't watch it, and then forgot about it.

Hee! I remember the "butt-love" joke. And I was only around for the fight work!

the Friar called for a line and I almost gave him a line he's never even seen before

*giggle* As long as you caught it. And this just means you are very knowledgable!
