Assorted fannishness

One: Episode 6 of Riese is up on YouTube. The characters all take themselves a little too seriously for my taste, but it still looks nifty, the performances are good, and there's some nice fight stuff. Also, half of Vancouver is going to parade through this puppy by the time it's done -- this ep starts "Chapter 2" (what would be the second ep if it were a regular hour TV show; the online eps are basically acts), with the cast expanding to include Ryan Robbins, Alessandro Juliani, and Emilie Ullerup, and Allison Mack is going to turn up soon.

Two: brightknightie and amilyn bring you fkficfest, an all-Forever Knight fic exchange, because they are awesome that way and because "fourteen years out from cancellation, we still love our vampire-homicide-cop show and the wonderful friends we have made -- and continue to make -- through it. We deserve a celebration! What better party favor than new FK fanfiction?" Check out the welcome post and come play! Signups open 2/18 and will be open for a month; stories will be due May 8.

Three: Ran across this adorable and hilarious Being Human picspam and had to share. Oddly, despite freely admitting that "this post makes no sense and is about how everyone is married," she's actually managed to put together a pretty solid representation of what is so fabulous about all these characters throughout series 1, without spoiling any plot. They are of course not actually married, nor does she mean it literally, but you kinda see her point. Also, there is liberal and amusing use of CAPSLOCK OF SQUEEE, and I believe many of you will be entertained even if you don't know or care about the show despite this blatant recruiting attempt.

In non-fannish news: I mostly have a voice again, and the ick in my chest is gradually but perceptibly going away. I am impatient, but grateful for modern medicine nonetheless.

That was an EXCELLENT picspam and YES, they are TOTALLY, COMPLETELY, AND INSANELY MARRIED. *ahem*

I think my favorite bit is the one about how "they are so domestic it cannot be textually rendered."

They're married in a totally platonic way.

George could *kiss* Mitchell, and it'd still be not at all sexual. And Annie's just too busy making tea for either of them.

It would, however, break the brain of everyone within a 500 mile radius.

In a good way?

Depends on the brain. Mine would be more in a "who is that and what has he done with George" way, personally, but there are many and varied brains out there. :-)

Yeah. I just didn't know which way you were going with that, cause mine would do a similar WTF dance. But they're still married.

Mitchell kissing George, OTOH, I can totally see, just to mess with his head. My current theory is that he eats all that junk food because the only thing he actually gets out of human food is sugar anyway. His body doesn't change, but it needs fuel.

So basically he's been on one long sugar high since he swore off blood.

Yes, exactly. Mitchell kissing George would break no brains, because Mitchell is effusive like that. But George would require weeks of angsting before managing anything that anyone could possibly misinterpret. :-)

Or maybe an uncharacteristic impulse born of massive stress and frustration, just to shut him up or something. Which would then require weeks of angsting after the fact.

I need to check out this "Being Human" thing. I saw a couple of partial episodes during the middle of the first series, but never realy understood what was happening. Maybe I need to start from the beginning... (quasievil_bunny highly recommends this show, too.)

I do think you'd need to start from the beginning; it's very serialized.

The original pilot is optional, but interesting. The relevant elements of it are condensed in the opening of the first episode of the series, which was came about a year later, with both Annie and Mitchell recast. They're both quite different, so if that would throw you, I'd just go with the series.

It's a much smaller story than the typical urban fantasy, and very very British. You might be a bit frustrated by the fact that Mitchell being from WWI is barely touched on.

It's okay; I have my own vampire from WWI to keep me occupied with details. Also, your theory about sugar giving fuel to a vampire body certainly matches up with the things I've been writing in my books, so I heartily approve and agree. ;)

At any rate, I'm going to have to see if I can get my hands on this thing and watch it from the start.

I'm glad you're feeling better, by the way.

Ha! And all these years later, we still share at least part of the brain.

We don't get BBCA without switching to digital (which we'll probably get around to eventually), so I don't know if they're rerunning the first season at all. They're 3 or 4 eps into season 2 in England, so I assume BBCA will be getting it before too terribly long, and it would make sense for them to rerun the first ones as prep. They're only six-episode arcs. I think I read somewhere that they're supposed to be out on region 1 DVD sometime relatively soon too.

If you don't have another convenient source (like, say, the bunny), holler.

Was there really any doubt? ;D

I saw part of it on BBCA, and if they do re-run it before season 2, I can catch it then. Thanks for the heads up!
