Stereotypical, yet funny

Mind of Men: Why Women Love Vampires And Men Don't

We prefer zombies, because we love chainsaws, flamethrowers, and samurai swords. And because, on some level, we know that besides being vehicles for sperm, our other important, if lesser, genetic imperative is to defend our loved ones from hordes of unthinking, flesh-eating metaphors for current social anxieties.

We have it, but haven't gotten round to watching it yet, so I have no opinion. *shrug*

BY THAT, MEK ONLY MEAN TO SAY: "TWO GENDER VIEWERS + THREE SUPERNATURAL 'SPECIES' PROTAGONISTS = ZERO INTEREST + ZERO TREND CORRELATION"

(IN THIS CASE, DUE TO POOR EXECUTION AND "NEW BUT NOT NEW" WRITING: MEK LOVED SET-UP, JUST NO PAY-OFF. SO SAD!)

IN RESPONSE TO ACTUAL ARTICLE: EH, MEK JUST TIRED OF FACILE "GRUNT-MAN-GRUNT" HUMOR, PROBABLY. TOO EASY, TOO LAZY, TOO MUCH USE OF "WE" AS INTENDED TRUISM-WITH-SLY-BID-AT-OWN-SEPARATION-THROUGH-SELF-LAMPOONING-DEPRECATION.

MEN LIKE ZOMBIES? MEH. ONLY SO FAR AS MEN LIKE SPLATTER... THAT IS TO SAY, MORESO THAN WOMEN, LIKELY.

THAT SAID, MEKKASIMIAN ALL ABOUT JOHN CARPENTER "THING". NOT FOR GORE, BUT FOR CLAUSTROPHOBIC PSYCHOLOGY OF DISTRUST.

(AND WILFORD FUCKING BRIMLEY!)

Yeah, it's stereotypical, but it's good for a giggle. I think sociologists could build careers out of study the vampire mythos and the fandom around it (and I'm sure some already have). It's interesting to me how the "standard" vampire has changed as society has changed, but how the creature is at its base about sexuality and the darkness in all humanity. (At least, that's what it's about to me.)

Yeah, I think that's pretty much it. Even Tarantino and Rodriguez, in deliberately rejecting the romantic trappings in favor of "just batshit fucking monsters," still had that core.

Me too, but I can't recall a particular instance of seeing a single one in a zombie movie. Despite being also rather fond of zombies.

The next place my brain goes, of course, is the tactical analysis that it's more than necessary -- their heads don't actually need to come off -- and requires you to get much closer to the zombie than is wise.

OTOH, it's an invaluable addition to a vampire hunter's arsenal. *eg*

I'd rather use something with more reach for a zombie, but vampires frequently require decapitation, so, yeah. What you said. ;)
