Costuming taken the extra mile

Pun intended. I've never been a Transformers fan, but this is hella impressive:

Dude In A Bumblebee Costume Really Tranforms Into Camaro

First thought: "Holy crap!"
Second throught: "Did they start with an existing toy car, or...?"
Third thought: "That's a knee replacement surgery waiting to happen."
Fourth thought: "Holy CRAP."

Looks like it's at a dealership, which means it's probably some kind of Chevy tie-in, with the costume professionally built and the guy paid to wear it. But STILL.

There was one in the Polaris masquerade last year, but I'm quite sure she couldn't. (I think it was a she; I couldn't see too well. :: points at icon ::) She did a funny dance number instead. :-D

As costuming, that is absolutely incredible. Even with the might of Chevy behind it, that is quite impressive. Thanks for sharing!

As a childhood Transformers fan, however, I laugh at their mere Camero impostor. The real Bumblebee is a VW Beetle! ~snickers at myself~

I very much doubt you're alone in that objection. And find myself wondering if they couldn't get VW on board for promotional purposes -- the new Beetle wasn't the newest of news at that point, but they're still pretty darn popular.

That is what I heard, that VW wasn't interested. However, I heard conflicting reasons, ... talked about them with Abby as we waited for the movie to start in the theater two years ago ... either that VW wouldn't give them money/free cars while Chevy would, or that VW didn't want to be associated with what it imagined the Transformers movie would be, as they thought it would conflict with the new Beetle's carefully cultivated image.

I think that perhaps they did not understand that for a significant population of a certain age in the US and, yes, Japan, the VW Beetle is as much Bumblebee as it is Herbie, regardless of the efforts of VW senior management. :-)

Dude! that is totally made of AWESOME!!

Even if it is a Bumblebee impostor. [sorry, though the movie was okay, I'll still think of Bumblebee as an old-style VW Bug. hee]

And wow, I wouldn't hold the 'car pose' for very long either...bet it's someone young in that costume, especially since the floors are *tile*. Definitely knee surgery waiting to happen, though. heh
