Code Five across the pond

Damn, we took a lot of pictures in Hawai'i. Just sorting them into folders as a preliminary let's-make-sense-of-this is taking all day. (Granted, my day started at 11:30. The body is not yet pulled back from Kona time. Should be interesting when the alarm goes off at 6 tomorrow morning.)

Luckily, it doesn't take nearly as much attention as it does time. TV makes it go faster, and we finally got hold of the US Ultraviolet pilot. A few observations:

It's decidedly Americanized, but not nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe. Although it would certainly have benefited from a lead actor who displayed some iota of emotion at some point. Everyone else was fine, but this guy served only to make me really miss Jack Davenport.

No idea what they thought was wrong with the original names, and am scratching my head a bit at some of the choices. Mike is now John. Jack is now Viggo, which, seriously, WTF? However, their captain is now Jack. Kirsty is now Neely. I know Angie has a different name too, but I didn't register it, as I was busy sorting photos and going "Where the hell did Joanna Going's hair go?"

Vaughn is still Vaughn, and spends the whole thing looking like "What am I doing here with these idiots?" when not blowing up vampires. Which is pretty much what he did in the original too, so it's a comforting point of consistent reference.

All in all, it might actually have made a decent series. Though I still would rather have had another season of the British version.

And now there is spaghetti, and then more photo-sorting. I shudder to think how long this would be taking without Adobe Bridge.

I'm not surprised that there's an Ultraviolet US attempt, but I don't know whether to be interested or "Why? WHY?" about it. A little of both maybe :D

I went with both. It works. *wry g*

IIRC, it was around the same time as the attempt at another Dark Shadows reboot. (The Alec Newman pilot, not the rumored Johnny Depp theatrical movie.) I know that was made, but as far as we can tell it's never been leaked. Which is kind of impressive in this day and age.

You kind of do. And surprisingly, not entirely in the trainwreck sort of way.

I'm not sure whether it's more or less disorienting to have Idris Elba in there when absolutely everyone else has been recast/renamed/reconceived. It's not even like John Kapelos as Schanke Mk I and II; he's 100% the same Vaughn.

OK, how did I miss you were going to Hawaii? Where did you go?

I didn't post much about it before we left, and didn't have internet access while we were there. We were on the big island, staying in Kona, in a residential neighborhood a couple miles uphill from the airport. It's kind of scary how much there is on just that island.

No kidding! I'd love to get back there sometime. I don't have a gazillion relatives to visit on the Big island.
