What is it about me...

...that makes bosses want to give me clothes? Not that I'm complaining mind you. But BigBossLady at Office of Doom has just followed in the footsteps of former BossLady at BalletMet with the designer hand-me-downs. (I mentioned something about going to Hawaii and trying to figure out what to pack just as she apparently just had a big swap meet with her sisters and hadn't gotten around to running the leftovers to Goodwill.)

On the one hand, SCORE! Five new-to-me dresses, three partyish and two conservative. (I'm on the fence about them, but one is beige linen and the other is cream silk, and either can be jazzed up nicely with, say, my grandma's beaded cardigan.)

On the other hand, memo to Banana Republic and Maggy Boutique: Nothing with a 4 on the tag should fit me. That is completely absurd. Some people don't believe me about the correlation between sizing and price point, but it's so absolutely the truth.

Back to packing now, as this is the only night off I have left to do it.

[nods] yep, the more expensive the clothing the smaller the size. I'm a size two at Anne Taylor, a four at GAP, and a six at Target.

With some exceptions -- the amazingly awesome silk chiffon Tadashi LBD is a 6. But mostly, yes, so very true.

And another reason to "grrrr" at the whole "Hollywood size zero" phenomenon, since that mostly equates to a 4 at the regular-people mass-market price point, and nobody really knows that.

4 is still small, sure, but for a woman of average height, not inhumanly so.

Pricier clothes are sized to fit the customer's ego. Nobody paying for an Anne Klein suit wants to be told she's really a size 12.

How did I miss the news that you're going to Hawaii? SQUEE! Have a marvelous time.

I've been kind of low-key about it -- with everything else going on it's kind of come up on us in a hurry! :-) It's for my parent's 40th, and I fully intend to have a marvelous time!!

Word.

If the clothes are cheap enough, I don't fit into an extra large but I have pricy stuff where I'm a medium.

Have a great time in Hawaii!

Thanks! I've never been, and am ridiculously excited. And reasonably hopeful of getting sufficiently caught up at Office of Doom first.

I didn't get caught up at work either, but I had scheduled a half-day vacation to pack and I just shut down my computer anyway. The work will wait for me.

Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Love,
Mom

I just want to be caught up enough to be sure no lawsuits are going to go belly-up! %-}

But you better believe I'm not going to give it a single thought while we're gone...
