Good news and bad news

Finally got the CD with the pictures from my shoot a couple months back. 419 of 'em, to be precise. There are even several I really like. Which is cool, since (a) they're freebies from a hobby photographer I met at a con, and (b) I'm not the most photogenic person on the planet, so anything I like is generally a plus.

Before you thwip me, that does not mean that I think I'm ugly or anything. It simply means that cameras (still cameras, at least) and I, for whatever reason, have a strong tendency to not get along unless the people behind them really, really know what the hell they're doing. About 85% of the pictures ever taken of me either look incredibly gorpy or look nothing like me at all, or both. I don't have the facility for not looking like I'm holding artificially still when I am, and am especially prone to that I'm-not-gonna-blink-dammit deer-in-headlights thing. With photographers who really, really know what the hell they're doing -- and who have nice fast cameras -- this is less of an issue since I'm allowed to move instead of pose.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Musing On Random Stuff That Doesn't Matter To Normal People to bring you something that does. Brother just called. Grandpa passed away about half an hour ago. :-/ Parents are on road in RV; uncle and brother have both been trying to reach parents all day without success -- no answer on cell phone. They're supposed to get to my aunt's house (Mom's sister; Grandpa was Dad's dad) sometime tonight for reunion tomorrow. Hope they haven't run into any trouble in new-used RV. :-( Right now more bothered by Dad not knowing of events of last couple days (uncle alerted us by email of latest hospitalization a couple days ago, day after parents left CO) than by events themselves. Very late right now, so it'll probably feel more real tomorrow. {sigh}

Back on the photo topic, I put a few that I like here. As Murphy's Law would have it, a couple of my otherwise-favorites have lighting issues, particularly one or two candidates for interim headshot. (I've pretty much decided it's time to stop cutting corners and shell out for someone with experience in that regard.) Hopefully some brightness correction and taking them into grey will make them useable. The ones at the link have just been resized, and a couple cropped a bit to make efficient use of browser space; some need a bit of color correction. But you get the idea. :-)

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandfather. *HUGS*

In a more trivial thought...you're right, you don't look like you half the time in pictures. I've been scrapbooking Davis stuff recently and I have noticed it.

TYK! That's my infamous "overnight" costume -- I'd been meaning to do it for ages, and then found myself going "oh, crap" at 1 pm the day before the movie came out. Nine hours later, I was set. And it's even pretty comfy.

It's also what I was wearing when the photog came up and introduced himself at MidOhioCon last fall.

LOL! Well it looks great :)

I'm sorry to year about your Grandpa.

I really like the photos and, yes, I have both seen (and taken!) a large number of really gorpy photos of you. These are great. I like all three of the red shirt ones and the black-diamonds29 and slipdress10 particularly well. Nice stuff.

Let us know if there's anything we can do.

Heyla, just wanted to add my condolences about your grandfather.

And very nice pics, too. The Sam costume is very impressive, did you make it?

{preens} Yup.

Fabric, including 6 meters of silk brocade (ordered from Thailand because it was NOWHERE to be found on this continent): $175
Sheet aluminum and assorted baubles, bangles and beads: $75
30 hours of work (if someone else hired me for it): $450
Amanda Tapping's reaction: Priceless

And last year she autographed the inside of the sash for me, so I've had a special good-luck charm in masquerade competition. *bouncebouncebounceBOUNCE!!!*

Whoa. Very, very SWEET! That is definitely something to be proud of, and the pics are awesome! I'm saving a few to my hard drive, hehe.

Those aren't even the best ones, just the ones I got right away from my buds. There's even a great one on her official site. That sent my jaw crashing through the floor when I saw it, lemme tell ya!
