I saw this a few months ago, and thought it was AWESOME. I would not be able to do anything remotely like that.

Oh, man, me neither! It wouldn't be a fraction as funny if she weren't technically amazing.

My favorite comment on turnout ever was on Silk Stalkings (possibly in the pilot) when Chris had taken his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter to her ballet lesson and Rita showed up, wanting to talk about the case. He was absorbed in watching the little girl and pointed saying, "She has real talent. Look. That is a perfect fifth position." Rita pulled down her sunglasses, peered across the studio, and said, "It looks like someone broke both her legs," then swatted him to get his attention to the case.

*grin*

I tried to watch it and enjoyed it...but didn't understand. Could you explain?

Depends. What didn't you understand? Why it's funny, or...?

I'm not sure I get WHAT she's doing technically or why it's funny. I mean, I get that it's commenting on the TOTALLY unnatural position that is turnout...but...?

That's pretty much it. The juxtaposition of the historical explanation, and the awkwardness of the movement, and the fact that even though it's awkward it's perfectly controlled and requires a high level of skill to execute.

The comparison of turnout to a squished June bug just did it for me.

[free association] Have you ever seen Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo? Oh, you should. You must. You would appreciate them.

I had the pleasure of seeing them perform about 30 years ago. I invited a friend to go with me, explaining (or so I thought) all about the Trock. Apparently, only "ballet" registered with her. I cherish the memory of the look on her face when the Swan Princess bounded out on stage.
