Dear Debtor,

Notwithstanding my enduring enthusiasm for a certain imaginary person who answers to it, my name is not Vicki. As you might note with a glance at the email to which you are replying.

Seriously, people. READING IS FUNDAMENTAL.

Yours headshakingly,
Val

P.S. Also still not Vanessa. Just in case you were wondering.

*giggles* If you were playing Cressida, though, you would, in a sense, be Vicki.

(Just don't be Victoria. The screaming would be distracting).

To be honest, I gave up caring about "Valarie" years ago...

It's ridiculous when people don't even bother to check the spelling of the name on the email before replying. My name has a dozen variations, and in spite of the fact that my email address usually has it spelled correctly, a lot of people still manage to spell it wrong.

And that's even including the fact that I usually sign my name at the bottom of my emails. So even if the mail address spelling is wrong, I think I know how to spell my own name!

*shakes head*

I'm trying to decide whether variant spellings or the completely wrong name that happens to start with the same letter is weirder. There are arguments for both.

I think the completely wrong name is weirder.

I have one of those names with varients and people screw it up ALL THE TIME, but. Jesus.

I used to regularly get email forwarded to me by a coworker with the same surname but a first name higher up in the alphabet. People just don't pay attention.

They really don't. And there was much head-scratching.

I have an unusually spelled first name. I will spell it for people, out loud, letter by letter, and then watch their hand as they write it down wrong.

And then I will sigh a little bit to myself over the fallibility of humankind and move on. But seriously. I spelled it out! Listen to me!

I've seen this one in action, not with my name but with other words or names. It's like they know they need to check it, but the brain just won't let go of the expected default.

Indeed. (That one I've actually never gotten, except in family company where small relative by that name is present or has been brought up in the conversation. Which I don't count.)
