But somehow it just never gets old. Or maybe that's just me.

Overheard on collector's end of a call just now:

Sir, you're not a stone and I don't want blood.

Isn't it you can't get blood from a turnip? to which the proper answer is, "No, but you can make soup of the turnip"?

Variant of the same proverb. Anecdotally, I'd say "stone" is by far the more common among Americans, but I have no idea what the data say. I'm sure someone has collected it.

Which is a pity, because I'd love to hear the results of someone proposing debtor soup. ;-D
