Val vs. Lawnmower Jock: Round 3

Week One: Godawful Industrial Riding Mower at 0540. School district facilities maintenance department called during business hours.

Week Two: GIRM at 0620. Noise ordinance looked up. School district called during business hours and informed that next time I would call the police instead of bothering them.

Week Three: GIRM at 0630. Was in middle of packing to leave for Toronto that night, shook head and moved on.

Week Four: GIRM at 0555. Urge to march across street in PJs with broadsword successfully squelched. Police called. Officer arrived within fifteen minutes and issued a citation.

Rule Number One of consumer bitching: No idle threats. :->

God bless suburban police departments with the time to deal with this crap.

You go, girl!

I hope the citation includes a hefty enough fine to act as a deterrent against further incidents of way-too-early mowing.

You and me both. I was rooting for the school district to hire a different contractor, but (a) they're a huge district (second largest in IL behind Chicago) and the bureaucracy would no doubt take forever, and (b) there's no guarantee another contractor wouldn't just mean starting the whole rigmarole all over again.

Here's hoping that it costing them hundred bucks or more every time will have some results. Because the cop said to call them whenever, and I see no reason not to.

Considering that you're not the only person living near the school, you are doing a great public service by stopping the idjit from mowing at oh-dark-thirty in the morning.

My guess is that he's getting as early a start as possible on the work so as much as possible can be done before the day gets really hot. That, or the contractor has booked too much work and has to start that early to get it all done in a day. Too bad. There are noise ordinances for a reason.

(And if there are babies living within range of the Very Loud Noise That Wakes People Up, the fine should be double.)

Yes, exactly. The same explanations occurred to me, and this is precisely my response.

Hear, hear. And there most assuredly are -- it's all cute-but-tiny 1950s houses built when the farm our house sat on was parceled out. Which means mostly young families with a smattering of seniors.

Hee!

Although I think the PJs and broadsword would have been wonderfully dramatic! And probably make the local paper. :D

Terribly tempting. But ultimately counterproductive, alas...

I've noticed that putting a sword in my hand increases the odds of getting decent picture... ;->

Darn. I still want video footage of that...

And YAY for the police and their promptness! Go, you!

Maybe I should make a video short. *snerk* There's a lot of "if other people aren't casting you, make it yourself" going on right now...

Are you still willing to come over and help with the Crazy Pile O' Sewing?

Indeed, yes. When is the good time for that? For the life of me I cannot remember the details of our conversation.

Yep, just chiming in late, in disappointment that you were able to squelch successfully

*giggle* Clearly it's time to get an up-to-date camcorder and get into the online filmmaking scene...
