Meme resistance at low ebb

'Cuz it's just easier than writing actual content when ze brain is going "bleh" from stoooopid cold.

Gakked from all and sundry:

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

1. It must be interesting to be in a room full of men, most of whom you've seen with their pants down. Dangerous Beauty (brainiacfive)

3. Strange town. Never spent this much on shampoo before in my life. Practical Magic (amilyn)

4. You're doing well. Your brother would have shot himself by now. The Mask of Zorro (brainiacfive)

5. Customs held up another order of books at the border. They're claiming the books are pornographic... hello? Which they aren't. Well, maybe Butches in Chains is, but so what? Better Than Chocolate (allmightybecca)

6. We're trying to get the funny man out of the well! Prince of Egypt (amilyn)

7. I don't think a nun would say that about a hill. Moulin Rouge (assplund)

--We do not follow you.
--Then let me put it this way... why is it that I always seem to be a little ahead of you?

9. I should hate to think you had anything to do with this.
-- Of course not, Mother. I'm only here for the food.
Ever After (sventhelost and lifelongfling)

10. If he's dead, can we go back to Phoenix?

11. Some people read palms or tea leaves. I read feet. Look what it says! Ahh, it says "Rejoice."
-- It says "Keds."

12. [N]ot even the best magician in the world can produce a rabbit out of a hat if there is not already a rabbit in the hat.

13. Quiet.
-- Do you hear something?
-- No, I just want you to be quiet.

14. Whenever we're about to do something truly horrible, we always say that the French have been doing it for years.

Yow! Those are hard!

I hope you feel better soon! *HUGS*
Mar. 1st, 2008 03:52 pm (UTC)
Thanks! {{ hugs back }}

And I've been stunningly unsuccessful with other people's...
Mar. 1st, 2008 03:59 pm (UTC)
I know!
The biggest problem is that I used to watch =tons= of movies.. and then I started this job 6 years ago, and it's been seriously cramping my fannish style ;-)

Apart from the project in Australia. I watched all of Farscape and 4 seasons of West Wing in the year and a half I was there ;-)

And I should have known #2, but then it's been 10 years since I last saw the movie. Must get it on DVD when I get back home, cos I dont' think I'm set up to play the widescreen VHS (!! I bought it in the UK, cos they didn't sell widescreen in Holland) anymore ;-)

OOh oooh.. is #8 from Much Ado About Nothing?
Mar. 1st, 2008 04:01 pm (UTC)
Nope, but good guess. It's almost certainly the most obscure one on the list, but I love it too much not to include it. :-)

I'm glad the meme says "fifteen OF" instead of "favorite 15" or I would have been completely paralyzed...

No kidding! I haven't had time to think about this meme and put it together, but to my 15 favourite movies of all time? Not gonna happen in 15 or less ;-)

Also, 14 makes me want to say The American President, but well..
Mar. 1st, 2008 04:11 pm (UTC)
*chuckle* I can see why. But no.
Mar. 1st, 2008 04:13 pm (UTC)
I give up ;-)
Also, it's time for bed here in the Indian Ocean :-)
Mar. 1st, 2008 03:50 pm (UTC)

4. *cackle*
7. Nope.
9. Yup!
Mar. 1st, 2008 05:02 pm (UTC)
4. Doh! I knew I should have known it!

7. Then I give up. :D

Mar. 1st, 2008 05:12 pm (UTC)
I'm mildly surprised no one has gotten 7, even though I chose it as a less guessable quote from an extremely guessable (at least in my circle) movie.
Mar. 1st, 2008 07:15 pm (UTC)
Heh, after looking it up, I can see the surprise. Loved that part of the movie. Mmmm. But I also had a hard time following any of the dialog.

I'm going to guess Charade for 8. I don't think I'm right, but I have to guess anyway. :)
Mar. 1st, 2008 07:31 pm (UTC)
You're much closer on the year. :-) It's easily the most obscure one on the list. I probably shouldn't have used it, but there's always a chance...
Mar. 1st, 2008 07:36 pm (UTC)
After a quick search, I don't think I've seen the movie in question, alas. :)
Mar. 1st, 2008 03:51 pm (UTC)
2 -- Labyrinth

9 -- Ever After
Mar. 1st, 2008 03:54 pm (UTC)
Check and check!
Mar. 1st, 2008 04:28 pm (UTC)
3. Practical Magic. ::happy::
Mar. 1st, 2008 05:10 pm (UTC)
Love. It. So. Much.

(I was going to call you and see if you want me to come bearing Vicki sometime this weekend, but I see you have an mtgat. We must make plans.)
Mar. 1st, 2008 05:13 pm (UTC)
We must indeed.
Mar. 1st, 2008 05:13 pm (UTC)

6. is Prince of Egypt!
Mar. 1st, 2008 05:13 pm (UTC)
Right you are! :-)
Mar. 1st, 2008 05:55 pm (UTC)
I think #5 is from Better Than Chocolate. #12 sounds like something from that movie with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman (I can't remember the name and didn't want to imdb or google). #8 I think is from the Princess Bride or if not its definitely sounds really familiar.
Mar. 1st, 2008 06:17 pm (UTC)
I think #5 is from Better Than Chocolate.

You think correctly. :-)

8 and 12 are quite a bit older...
Mar. 1st, 2008 07:18 pm (UTC)
Yay! to getting one right. darn for the other two. They just sound so familiar...Probably means I will kick myself when I see the answers. :)
Mar. 1st, 2008 06:44 pm (UTC)
1. Dangerous Beauty

4. The Mask of Zorro
Mar. 1st, 2008 07:08 pm (UTC)
Mar. 1st, 2008 06:54 pm (UTC)
I don't recognize most of these, but they are so charming and/or hilarious that I think I'd better hit the library for them after the reveal. :-)

>"You're doing well. Your brother would have shot himself by now."

I don't know from where this comes, but given the ficathon story on which I'm working, about the hero's sister, it made me laugh and laugh.
Mar. 1st, 2008 07:21 pm (UTC)
If you've never seen the source of #8, that in particular should be fixed. Which reminds me, I need to do my periodic check to see if they've put it on DVD yet...
Mar. 1st, 2008 10:16 pm (UTC)
7. Moulin Rouge
13. Wild Wild West?
Mar. 1st, 2008 10:28 pm (UTC)
7. Yes!!
13. Oh, dear gods, no. Valiant attempt :-)
Mar. 1st, 2008 10:43 pm (UTC)
God, I know I've heard it somewhere. And for some reason I'm hearing it in Kevin Kline's voice in my head.

Mar. 1st, 2008 10:59 pm (UTC)
Not sure why that would be, but of course now I'm hearing it that way myself.

And see, this is the fun part -- I've been twisting my brain into pretzels trying to get everyone else's for the last few days, so yay for the other side! ;-D
Mar. 1st, 2008 11:36 pm (UTC)
I'm certainly losing my mind trying to place this damn quote.

Mar. 2nd, 2008 12:04 am (UTC)
Not a bad wild guess, in a way. *eg*
Mar. 2nd, 2008 01:29 am (UTC)
Ugh. I know I've seen #8. Can. Not. Remember. Name.
Mar. 2nd, 2008 01:37 am (UTC)
Lot of that going around. But to be honest, I expect most people to go "Oh. No. Never heard of that."
(Deleted comment)
Mar. 2nd, 2008 01:42 am (UTC)
Nope. That one is definitely getting the wildest range of guesses!
Mar. 2nd, 2008 04:34 am (UTC)
I'm clueless right now, but when someone figures out 11 I'm going to thump myself on my forehead for not remembering...

Great quotes!
Mar. 2nd, 2008 01:49 pm (UTC)
You might at that...
Mar. 2nd, 2008 03:23 pm (UTC)
11 - Labyrinth?
Mar. 2nd, 2008 03:25 pm (UTC)
Already represented at 2. :-)
(Deleted comment)
Mar. 2nd, 2008 05:00 pm (UTC)
brainiacfive actually refrained from posting a guess on that one, figuring he'd let someone else have it. Just goes to show you never know what's going to be the stumper!
Mar. 3rd, 2008 04:09 pm (UTC)
Guesses on open ones....
8. is driving me nuts...haven't seen it in ages, remember it but NOT the title. *sigh* Need to find a copy now that you've reminded me....basically, children of the 3 musketeers, with some rather famous (or soon-to-be) folk in it too.
10. Lost Boys
11. Godspell
12. Red Shoes?
13. Can't place, and will kick myself for it later
Mar. 3rd, 2008 04:28 pm (UTC)
Re: Guesses on open ones....
You are correct on all, including the description of At Sword's Point. Now I'm wishing I'd waited one more day to post the remaining answers!
