When Fandoms Collide

(And yes, I now owe you guys two Designer Crack posts. They're coming, I swear!)

Someone was saying something snarky in their blog about Victorya's design from last week. An activity of which I heartily approve, as I want her gone more desperately than I do Christian.

Except there's a typo, and it's referred to as "Victory's dress."

Blood Ties folk who have either read the books or been made familiar with that particular nickname for Vicki through other means will understand why that bid fair to make my head explode.

In other news, I finally said "The hell with it, the to-do pile isn't going to get any smaller" and spent two hours this morning rearranging my office so that the window is no longer directly behind me. I can have the blinds open and see the computer at the same time! I can sit and watch the icky wet snow while attempting to catch up on those two hours of work! GLEEEE!

I really wish someone would sell the ready to wear dress from Victorya/Jillian. It was so very cute. It amazed me that at the last minute, they came up with someone nicer than Ricky/Kit spent days making.

I love Chris M, not so much for his clothes but because he strikes me as a person I'd really like.

I often love Christian's clothes, but I still want to see him get booted just for the look on his face.

Why is Ricky still there? I feel for the guy, but WHY????

I have no idea, but I can't imagine it lasting much longer. The cushion of Other People Severely Frelling Up is getting too thin.

I ask myself the same thing EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

Before or after "Oh, dear God/dess, what's making him cry now?" He seems like a nice guy and all, but holy spinnoli.

*nods fervently* And they both keep winning and getting immunity so they can't be kicked off forcibly. If the prom dress couldn't get rid of Christian, nothing could. *sighs* And Victorya... why why is she so popular with the judges? I'd hate to see her lingerie or swimsuit designs.

Except there's a typo, and it's referred to as "Victory's dress."

*giggle, snort* Of course, I'm reminded of the art gallery episode where everyone went "Vicki's wearing a dress?"

*chuckle* I had the same response. Except of course that what I loved about that was that she was actually perfectly comfortable, other than that brief moment of bracing for Henry to say something. It did make me wonder if Coreen had said something offscreen -- it seems likely. Not mocking, exactly, but I'm sure it involved VERY big blue eyes and some mild kid-sisterly ribbing...

Vignette!

Put it on the post-Lizzie list?

If the fancy strikes. :-) Mostly these things work better as random mental images...

I would not be at all surprised to see a Jillian/Christian/Victorya final three.

Granted, the last eliminations have shocked me, because I thought sure that Ricky was DOOMED several times already. All the same, I think that Ricky and SweetP won't last much longer. Rami started strong, but one more draped dress and he'll be in serious danger. I love Chris M with all my heart and I could see him making the final four, but not the final three... unless someone else really screws up.

Tim Gunn is Dubious
That was my favorite part from last night's show.

Victorya is good, but she is a snotty little so and so.

I thought I was the only one who really dislikes her.

Christian I can deal with...for now. ("OMG I think it looks sooooo expeeeensive!!!!")

Sheesh.

Actually haven't seen it yet; was off watching havocthecat's belly dance troupe.

But Tim being dubious is seldom a good omen...

Victory in a dress, I have no problem with. Victory on Project Runway? Excuse me while I recover from a snorting fit.

And then I must have another moment to recover from someone spelling their daughter's name "Victorya" instead of "Victoria". GAH.

Precisely. Although picturing her in Victorya's dress (which was designed for and in collaboration with a 2008 teenager for her prom) is also hazardous to the breathing process.

As for spelling, I've certainly seen stranger, but I'll never understand why people do it. Yes, your kid will be distinctive. But she will also accumulate hours and hours of wasted time in the course of her life correcting people. And possibly become a passive-aggressive control freak with delusions of superiority who irritates the snot out of people on national television.

On the other hand, having the most ordinary name in one's generation can also provoke years of wasted time over a lifetime explaining that you are not Jenny S., you are Jenny R., no, not Jenny Re., Jenny Ri.! ;-)

What's worse is that the two problems aren't mutually exclusive, since variant spellings seldom change the pronunciation. Pity the bearer of Jenifer, which I've seen more than once.

d_84's older sister was on a cheerleading squad entirely composed of girls named some version of Jennifer. They managed to find 12 different ways to spell Jen, or Jenny, or Jennifer so no two of their sweaters said exactly the same thing.

I like my unusual, Mom thought she made it up spelling of my name.

When my older sister named her firstborn daughter Jennifer, she had no idea that it was the most popular name for girlbabies that year.

I can sympathize with my niece; I'm a Baby Boomer who attended Catholic schools, and on my birth certificate my name is Mary. Which is why I don't use it. I went through a period in my mid-30s when I almost never encountered another Mary, but the name's becoming popular again.

I just want to know why the concept of an avante garde outfit was so difficult for most of the designers to comprehend?
