Tick-tock, tick-tock

Last night's show was called on account of no audience. (Con: All dressed up with nobody to die for. Pro: Extra sleep, w00t!) However, there's a full house on the books for tonight, and Sunday is looking quite healthy.

We're off tomorrow (10/27) and Monday (10/29), and closing next Sunday (11/4). [ETA clarification: That means we have shows every weeknight except Monday.] Get your tickets now!

>"on account of no audience"

Oh, dear! None, none? Last year, I watched a documentary on the history of The Fantasticks in which someone reminisced about the night only one man came, and they couldn't persuade him to take a ticket for another night. He insisted that they perform for just him, and they did.

Two, but they were friends willing to come back another night.

The benchmarks varies -- one often hears "if the cast outnumbers the audience," but I've never seen that one actually implemented. Usually in the extremely intimate spaces of the Chicago storefront scene the magic number seems to be five; I've never encountered the issue in larger venues.

We performed Much Ado one night for an audience of one, because it was our Margaret's father and he had driven 2 1/2 hours from Cleveland in the snow. She was 17, didn't always have the best relationship with him, and was freaking out that he had come at all, particularly since her role involved kissing and flirting with a very large older man. It was a bit surreal, but thankfully ended up going quite well.

I once performed for an audience of three: The producer/conductor's parents and niece. It was so embarrassing, but we took itas a chance to goof and we all had a good time anyway.
