Chicago Reader mini-review

Quite a different tone from the last one, but no less positive. With the "R" for "recommended" next to it, w00t!

The three short plays and five monologues comprising Darren Callahan's anthology of creepy tales hark back to the golden age of horror fiction, nowadays associated with gory spectacle. But at one time this literary genre was the favored forum for discussion of the conflicts between science and superstition--or, if you prefer, dispassionate technology and natural law. Director Jeremy Wechsler and the stage combat-oriented Babes With Blades take full advantage of their quarters in a circa 1910 mansion, now the North Lakeside Cultural Center, to lead audiences on a 90-minute tour through speculations on the fate of civilization as we know it. Amid the glut of Halloween theatrical screamfests, Horror Academy provides not only the requisite chills and thrills but food for thought. --Mary Shen Barnidge

And yes, that's the critic I spattered on opening night.

NIFTY!

And I totally missed the part where Jeremy was directing. *blush* I haven't seen him and Penny since I lived with Amanda & Jessica.

I actually knew he (and our sound designer) Dave Bell knew you, due to explaining to him how I knew Jessica.

The grapefruit strikes again!

zomg DAVE! I actually met him before Jessica did. I met him on the train one day ten years ago--and he never called me, the rat bastard. Then it turns out he was a friend of beebalm, and she introduced him to us at a L&C night, I think it was.

Grapefruit x 100.

*g* Didn't really expect it to, but this is still the one I've been wondering about because of that!

So we have one saying we bring the bloody and one saying we bring the thinky. Now I want one saying we bring the funny. 'Cause we do, though it's certainly not a comedy...
