Bleah.

I've been very grateful (and give most of the credit to my trusty steam thingie, which should not be purchased at that link 'cause I paid half that at Wal-Mart!) not to have had a sinus infection since April. I've been hoping this latest cold would clear up too, but as of this week it's looking like no dice.

This week, of course, being when my temporary one-month gap in health insurance happens, because we've added me to brainiacfive's coverage, which starts the new plan year 1/1, but the one at my office expired 12/1. (If you ever needed an illustration of just how severely screwed small businesses really are in the group coverage game, here it is: We felt markedly less anxious about whether we should have bought a timeshare when we realized that the monthly bill will be entirely offset by the difference in premium.)

Already called in sick for rehearsal tonight to go sit in an urgent care clinic for what will no doubt be quite a while. Thankfully, I have both a book and knitting. And a medical savings account. *sigh*

Hoping that you feel better soon.

Posts like this make me extremely greatful that the UK health service is less than half as f*cked as the US idea of a service.

*chuckle* Considering that the US idea isn't actually having one as such, that's not too hard...

Putting the responsibility on employers worked pretty well 50 years ago, but it's unfortunately been mostly downhill from there. There are some ideas that are neither the limping current model nor the bogeyman of "socialized medicine" (and yes, it is a bogeyman to enough Americans that it's just plain never going to be a successful sell here), but there's not even enough attention being paid to them to determine how feasible they are.

The long view isn't exactly this nation's strong suit, I'm afear'd.

On the sickness
I do hope someone has told you of the wonders of zinc, Celestial Seasons Echinachia cold care tea and nasal pots. They sure help me when things get bad.
Hope things get better.

Re: On the sickness
The tea is indeed a wonderful thing (along with Airborne, Thayer's slippery elm throat lozenges, and Yogi Teas from Whole Foods Market). Alas, I've never quite been able to do irrigation without half-drowning -- probably has something to do with deviated septum -- but my steamer does a good job.

Every once in a while, tho, I get past that point. And then it's big bully antibiotic time, like now. :-P

Thanks!
