May I just say...

... this is NOT the time when I need to spend $1200 on car repairs? And be without it for two days? *grumblegrumblegrumble*

I guess I should be grateful it's held up as well as it has, with the work I've been putting it to for the last year and a half. But the timing still SUCKS. *moregrumbling*

What happened to the car?????

I have to get the clutch changed out for the Saturn, which is $800-1200. Also ugh.

If it weren't for that, I'd be offering you the car, too. *sigh*

Water pump. Which is not a terribly expensive part, but which they have to take apart the whole gorram engine to get to. :: curses Cavalier design (even though I probably shouldn't, since for the most part it's a very good car) :: It's the 8 hours of labor that are killing me here. Grrrrrr.

{{{ sympathy }}} on the Saturn woes. And no worries; at least they're getting me a decent deal on a rental for the next couple days.

Good lord.

Last several times I got the water pump changed (and had the timing belt done at the same time or vice versa), they also had to take apart the entire gorram car and put it together, but it was only ever $200-400. Did you go to the dealer or...heavens...wuwt?

Yup. Dealer. Checked another one in the area, ballpark same cost.

These parts are going to be around $300. :-P

Either your engine is a lot easier to take apart, or you have one HELL of a cheap garage. Or both.

*wince* Know that feeling. I shudder to think what maladies my Intrepid has picked up in the year since I had it looked at last.

Hopefully. Unfortunately, it may have picked up on the fact that I was contemplating trading it in on an electric if/when I get a half-decent job. The past two months, it wasn't giving me twenty miles to the gallon, and I can't afford a gas guzzler in suburbia...

Yikes! Yeah, I'd be thinking trade-in too. :-/

My sympathies!

Timing is everything sometimes.

Re: Eeep
Indeed. And appropriately enough, they're replacing the timing chain while they're in there...
