All hail my mad troubleshooting skillz. :-P

So, all this time? It wasn't the capture card, or in fact anything in the computer at all.

It's the S-video output on my DVD player. *facepalm*

I swear I tested the RCA inputs as well as the S-video when I was messing with it a couple months ago, but apparently not. Or else there was something else wrong that is now fixed. (I'm pretty sure I haven't done it since reinstalling the driver -- today is the first time I've done any serious testing since then -- so I comfort myself that maybe that's it.)

Thanks to finabair's TV having an S-video input, I was able to confirm that the signal coming through the cable was black & white, not just what I was seeing on my computer. One trip to Micro Center later (which I needed to do anyway), I have confirmed that it wasn't the cable, as a brand-new cable is doing the same thing. *sigh*

Annoying as this is, it's still Really Good News -- it means my lovely capture card is still perfectly healthy, and while the lack of functioning S-video takes away the convenient option of leaving my vidding setup connected at all times (unless I give up completely on watching Lost in all its diagonal-striped rabbit-ears-reception splendor, anyway), it's acceptable. It also means I should probably invoke the warranty on the player, but since that would probably involve shipping it to Daewoo and not having it at all, I'll hold off on that (if I do it at all).

Okay. Now I take apart the computer and put in the AGP video card (regular video card, for running the monitor, as opposed to my separate capture card), so I can free up the PCI slot taken up by my current video card and put in the SoundBlaster card I got to replace my crappy on-board sound. So I can get those dialogue bits while capturing and finally MAKE THIS GORRAM VID!!

I suspect I shall have to exercise serious discipline to go to bed at a decent hour tonight...

Can I engage in vicarious vidding through you? *g*

(and two questions: what video software do you use? and did you get "The Wreck of the Athens Queen"?)

Sure, Premiere, and yes, but I have to confess I haven't listened to it yet. :-)

Even better: violence that knocks one senseless.

And I will be going to bed at 10, whether or not Premiere has decided to cooperate by then. *sigh*

OMG. This means I'm going to have to vid.

Like, soon.

But now I think I should wait for the 2nd season DVDs to drop.

Ugh.

Maybe I should borrow someone's Buffy DVDs and do "Stacey's Mom". *grin*
